Windows 7 Beta released to the public

Okay I noticed that the previous thread was closed due to the whole torrent mess because someone didn't take the little hint that EF threw up there.

Anywho, the Windows 7 Beta has been released to the public by Micro$oft and I'm using IE8 on the beta to make this post. It's quite nice I'd say, they even redid the games and paint...cool stuff especially coming from XP.

If you guys would like to get it for yourselves, it's right here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...-download.aspx

I decided to install mine by clearin out the HDD, just so I don't have to deal with the whole dual-boot mess. I haven't really noticed any major problems so far. Occasional video glitches and the video driver sometimes stops responding but fixes itself.

Whaddya think?

Download seems to be very busy as I cannot get the download to run yet - will keep at it during the day but I am supposed to have better things to do!

Update
2 1/2 hours later and instead of ignoring me it now says it's own link cannot be found. Guess it was just a tad oversubscribed!

Does this need active X for the download as it will not even download on either of my Linux desktop or laptop.

Swine - it has been doctored so it won't work with FF.

Yeah sorry, I should have mentioned that you can only use Internet Explorer to download the OS. Fortunately for the people who download it, you get it pretty damn fast (at or near your max download speeds from what I've heard). I had mine downloading at 330-360kbps which is basically top speed for me.

BM I take it that you're using IE?

As I only have a s hite 1Mb download it has taken hours but seems to have arrived OK - I wandered off to the pub and left it to it!
Will have a shufti in the morning and find a machine to stick it on to see how well it works. Maybe another boot drive on this one....

Am I the only one here who got the download at a good speed? It still took like 2.5 hours but that's pretty damn good for me lol

Downloaded OK - minor panic as I suddenly thought there might not be 244Gb spare on the drive so had to shuffle some files around to make space. 244Gb - that is humungous - wonder why it is so big and how they are going to deliver the final edition?

No worries, Alan. Trouble is that it is such a huge file it is going to be a pig to move around!

A 3.2GB download, how can they justify that.
I know it is a beta but that is huge when a Linux distro can be under 700MB and be burned to a CD.
I will not prejudge it till I have had time to evaluate it.

I remember using the Vista beta and that had all sorts of problems with the 64 bit one.

I use 64 bit Vista and I have absolutely no problems with it whatsoever

The main difference between 32 bit and 64 bit OS's is memory allocation.

32 bit operating systems can only allocate a maximum of around 3.2GB of RAM, whereas 64 bit can allocate much more (i'm not sure on the exact figure, maybe someone else can inform both of us on that one )
