I have yet to install it. I gotta put my second dvd drive thats in my computer in my spare dell so I can install it. So when I get around to that I will.

Taima -- Linux is pretty sweet. You should give it a go some time, its pretty fun to fool around with.

Install just like Vista - noticed that if you want to format the drive prior to installation there is no option to do a quick format or a full format - and judging by the format speed it is a quick one.
Will update this as I go along.
The board is an Asus P4P800 with a P4 3GHz chip and 1 Gb DDR400 RAM, GeForce MX400-v64 256Mb AGP - am installing onto a spare 80 Gb Maxtor IDE drive.

Update
Took about an hour to install. Looks very lke Vista but is Windows 7 Ultimate with a nice fish in the middle of the desktop. Oh Yes. Drivers install OK including the drivers for the motherboard which came from an install CD which is pre-Vista! Drivers for the AGP card not installed as the site has 'lost' the pages for this card. Great so will grub about in the bits box and see what else I can lay my hands on. See - worth not throwing things away!
Boot to available about 70 secs.

Update
Found a Nvidia 7600 256Mb card in the bits box so stuck that it - found the drivers at once and improved the image quality a lot.
Installed AVG Free - no problem.
Vista speed index 3.3 - not bad for a box full of second hand bits.
Not keen on the networking thing though - it forces a password on you and you cannot select your own.
Update
Getting seriously cross with this network thing - not logical. You cannot share folders as before as I think you have to assign users to a group before you can allow access to a folder. Despite the usual workgroup name setup my XP machine can only see the beta machine but not access any of it's shared resources.

I found it hard to share the folders also. If you don't have your network set to private, and you don't have a password enabled, it will not let you share your folders.

Yeah I suppose that's a pain in the @$$ but I mean it's not like its hard to make a password and whatnot. Maybe they'll work it out by release time.

I don't know, it was the same in Vista. I know I don't see much difference between Vista & Win7. Maybe it's because I chose to do an upgrade, rather than a clean install. It seems to run a little faster but the laptop I have it on has a cual core & 2.5 gig of ram.

Microsoft truly cares; they listen to their customers.
They’ve already addressed the three most requested features:

1. It’s not Vista.
2. It’s not Vista.
3. It’s not Vista.

OO i have some questions about windows 7 can i ask them here on this thread.

If i buy an upgrade say windows 7 premium can i put it on more than one computer.
i have a dell and a toshiba laptop.

now the toshiba has the regular vista premium but the dell has the vista ultimate will there be much lost if i put premium over the ulitimate on my dell and when i upgrade do i just install right over the vista on both machines. sorry been out of the loop due to illness trying to get back into swing of things and get mind working. thanks for any help.

or would i be best to just leave vista on both lol

Hi
Answer to multiple installs is no - the same as all other versions of Windows.

You can install over Vista without a problem - which one you keep is up to you. if you can afford it I would install W7 on each as Vista is so awful!

No worries Cathy - W7 really as an enormous improvement and I think worth the money - the first OS for years that is!

I have the Ultimate version as it has more bells & whistles.
Any OS reinstall will mean putting the progs back in.

best of luck - do me a favour please? Open the window, lean out and shout "Hello Canada" for me! If my Uncle Jim hears you in Victoria he will know who sent it!

well iam at a stump i downloaded the advisor and it said that because i have the vista ultimate i should purchase the windows 7 ultimate which costs big bucks. if i purchase the pro or prem of windows 7 it says to do a clean install.

okay so to do a clean install over vista ultimate on my dell. if i bought the profession say.
or even the prem. would i have to wipe my harddrive or does that mean i just insert cd and does it give you the option for clean install. also will i have to download all new drivers and such for my dell . eeeks makes me nervous do i really need to upgrade tho . lol thanks for any help.

Even though Ultimate is more than the others I think it is worth it. If you have the pennies you won't regret it.
Any install from boot should offer you both choices but in truth there may be changes in W7 I have not seen. The install I did recently did not offer an upgrade as it was the release candidate I think. Also, if you are not upgrading like for like there may be different options.
W7 driver install is a huge improvement on anything that has gone before - don't worry about it unless you have some really obscure devices installed.
