It crawling along
have done all the virus checks temp stuff
Even changed to open dns and stil slower than me after a good night out
What else can i try please
FF is okay but i dont like using it

FF 3.6 is the pick of the bunch - and does not really take much getting used to. I hardly use IE8 at all now because, as you say, it is so slow.
Go on - be brave; you know it makes sense!

Take a look at this thread HERE and see if it helps at all.
There are also plenty of results for slow IE8 on Google which may help. slow IE8 - Google Search
Lastly, as has already been suggested by Albert, using an alternative browser may well help a lot.

If I'm to be honest, I would say the Google Chrome is probably the best browser there is. Certainly it is the quickest. But I guess I'm just too used to FF.

You are right - but I still think FF is better - and with those teaks someone suggested it did make a difference to the speed.

Might uninstall 8 and try 7
see if there is any improvement
I do like the little red squiggle under my typos in FF

Lol, the FF spell checker is great, just make sure you select the correct language, as by default it's set to use US English.

I have a problem with ff
its wont let me sign into a site
it says ff has prevented from redirecting and i allow it and then takes me back to the log in page
?????????
i am stumped
