IE searching causes browser to crash

Hello again,
sorry I haven't been able to respond to you guys for a while. Things got worse and worse to the point where I couldn't give it any more time for a while, somebody had to pay the wolf!
I have got things to the point where the net works (mostly), I can now get pages that are in my favorites list, but whenever I try to use the address bar or Google search it causes the browser to crash.
I have tried RIES with no affect, and have upgraded to IE8 with no affect.
Heard of this before?

Yours ,Roger

I don't use Firefox. I had Google toolbar, but I took that out and it's a bit better now. I also had to uninstall Orbit 'cos that seemed to be confusing matters too.
Sometimes it seems to work ok, others, not.

I suggest you clear out the add-ons to check if one of those is responsible (Tools menu) as well as make sure you are up to date with updates from MS.
If it still crashes I would agree with BM and start using another browser.

First, who IS Kevin?
Second, I turned all add-ons off, but it didn't help. I tried running "IE (no add-ons)" with the same effect.
It puzzles me that anything in a favourites list, or in my home page tabs (this has been my favoured method of navigating to a site) loads with NO problems whatsoever. But if I type into the address bar, or the search bar, hitting enter seems to kill it.

Yes, on several occasions, each time finding some other kind of Trojan or other!
Recently completed a full scan with SAS which detected 52. All of them to do with the same thing! Since deleting them, things seem to be getting better.
My thoughts keep coming back to; "What the Hell IS AVG doing?"
I have downloaded AVAST, and am seriously thinking about installing it, but am reluctant to, but I don't know why.

The trade acknowledges that AVG is no longer the product it was and the seal of approval has gone to Avira first and then Avast second in the lists for free AV ware.
