Internet Explorer

Evilfantasy or anyone else.......I never have probs but have something now.
Windows XP Pro Sp2 (sp2 now but had sp3 and removed for troubleshooting)

I upgraded to IE8 from IE7 which was working great and all was well.....I thought.
Maybe from get go or not but...
noticed OE loading/opening very slowly then checking emails slow also.
I fiddled with it to no avail.
I uninstalled IE8
IE7 now has no toolbars. There is no way to access any menu/options/file/nothing.
Will only show restore, minimize and close.
Now System Restore will not work either.
I tried everything I could find to fix missing toolbar problem. No good.
I fiddled and fiddled and fiddled.
I finally did an XP repair. OK.
Reverted IE6 and toolbars are present again.
I upgraded to IE7, which had worked flawlessly for quite some time before all this.
Now IE7 has no toolbars AGAIN and no way to access anything on those upper lines.
I uninstalled IE7 and reverted back to IE6 and all is well again.
My OE opens and check mail instantly.

Any clues or suggestions on what in the heck is going on?
Thanks.
Gunner2 Aka Gunner

PS None of this affected FF3 or any other system function.
Also when toolbar is missing the right click option is also defunct in IE7.

Have a look here
The menu bar and the toolbar are missing in Windows Explorer or in Internet Explorer on Windows XP-based computers

Thanks. One of the first things I tried. No worky.
I googled till my fingers bled all to no avail.
I had deleted all references from the registry but still no worky.
Running IE6 makes everything fast but would like to get back to IE7 anyway.
There are bout a million updates to IE6 which I'm not doing.
Any ideas anyone?

(BTW, I ran all security checks and I'm clean.)

You uninstalled sp3
That might be where the problem lies
try reinstalling sp3 then internet explorer 7

FireFox - cleans all sins and misdemeanors, makes your PC surf like it is on speed. Do it!

I'm just float'n right now but will reinstall sp3 and IE7 and then IE8 again.

FF is my main squeeze. But you must know how it is, Albert, to have something
even if not used to work correctly. It's the perfectionist in us.
Now get off your arse and help me. I know if I have a prob it's gonna be
a good one but someone may have just the right catch.

It make you sick doesn't it?
I have just let my main machine install IE8 all by itself and the horrid thing works perfectly. B astard!
I would go into the Add/Remove programs area and then the Windows Components and remove Internet Explorer completely. Then using the updater tool, download and install the latest version. You could install FF so you have a way of saving all your favourites - then take it off again once you have IE sorted out.

Don't you even read what I type? "FF is my main squeeze."
Good thought on removing IE from components. I never did it before and
really did not even think it possible as it is so deep in the core.
I'll let you know.
Thanks.

I removed IE from Windows Components. Man, that was fast. Zip and gone.
I then loaded IE7 and it worked finally after playing with it a bit.
OE was working fast in IE and FF.
I then installed IE8 and it went right in.
But I swear OE is now back to slow to initiate and slow to check mail.
It also seems to slow it using straight program command or FF email check.

Albert, check your OE, if you have it, on the machine you installed IE8 on
and see if yours zips along or delays.

I may try, not now but later, to revert back to IE7 if I have a notion.
Thanks.

IE8 is much faster than previous editions. I was trying to be fair and checked this on the first time it was opened so before it loaded any add-ons or other tripe. I use FF as a primary browser as well.

Interesting - on the desktop I was able to force an update to UE8 from IE6, but on the laptop I cannot force it to upgrade to IE8 without going to the MS download page. Mmmmm....
Anyway the laptop ain't broke so I ain't going to fix it!

I GIVE UP for now.
IE8 slows OE on IE and FF.
Backed off to IE7 and again "NO TOOLBAR".
Backed off to IE6 and GREAT!! OE is fast. In fact everything is fast.
Going to hang here for a while.
As I already said I use FF 99%. IE was for M$ updates only.
Thanks for the help.

BM: thanks but messenger not running.

Gunner, I think you have another problem which is causing this.
What AV are you using?

Oh no you didn't just ask me that!!! AVG 8 FREE EDITION of course. Shut Up.
Whether d/l, install, uninstall, whatever, I disabled everything in msconfig startup.
I was praising IE8 but took me a while to notice the Outlook Express slow to
engage or check mail using IE or FF or straight from the Programs menu.
I did a complete Windows XP repair and then reinstalled IE from scratch.
Something screwy with why IE8 slows OE and even more screwy why removing
IE8 loses toolbar in IE7. I will find the cause but may have to sleep on it couple days.
