Unable to download/install addons in firefox 3.0.7

Hi,

I have installed Windows Vista SP1 and then firefox 3.0.7.
I am unable to download/install any addons or extensions or plugins, getting download error -228.
I do not have any antivirus or firewall installed.
I have also tried disabling the windows firewall and defender but still no luck.
Could someone help me on this .....
