I've heard many good things about Foxfire and would like to know if it is worth all the hassle to switch from IE.
I've used IE forever but now understand that it has security issues in addition to other factors that make it less desirable to many users.
I have no idea how to make it as convenient to use as IE. I'm just so used to using Explorer.
Feedback on this would be appreciated.
Regards
Len

I was never going to leave IE and used it many years.
IE7 was the greatest. I am hard to change old habits.
Firefox 2.? and then FF3 made it easy to finally change.
FF is much faster, stores passwords and login info perfectly, is easily
customizable, and has countless and countless addons if one chooses.
There are new browsers out there like Opera and Chrome that I'm sure have
their advantages. But as with IE, it will take quite a bit of pushing to change from
my FF3.
Good luck. |

I just find the FF browser confusing after using IE for so long. The favorites seem much easier in IE than the 'bookmarks' in FF. Is there a way to import information form my IE browser into the FF browser?
I guess I'll check around for tutorials on how to understand the differences and make them easier to use.
I'd like to try FF but it just seems confusing at this point.

Len

Very easy to import IE favs over to FF.
You can keep using IE and still play with FF. Just compare for speed and access.
Personally, I don't care for tabs so all my toolbar buttons are icons and
far to the left just as IE was. It was easier and easier as I went along.
Anything new or different takes a little time to adjust.
Just have some fun with it and ask Q's or Google your way through it.
Piece of cake.....or chocolate to some.....OK, chocolate cake.
Good luck. |

My reason for switching was because IE kept falling over, sometimes so bad I had to reboot the system.
Once you get used to it it seems faster, more reliable, more intuitive in use. The only snag I have is the occasional download of a patch.
Do it!

Regards,
Len | Simply get the add-on PlainOldFavorites and all your IE favs are transferred to Firefox and you will also then see a link next to "bookmarks" at the top, called "Favorites", obviously
There's an add-on for almost anything you would want.
Try Firefox for a month and you'll never go back!

I have been using Firefox since it was called Mozilla. IE always froze on me back when Mozilla came out, so I made the switch to Mozilla. Through the years Mozilla became Mozilla Firefox. I have been very happy ever since. Great browsing, fast and reliable. Allows you to clear the browsing history and private data every time you close the browser. You can even save the pages and tabs you have open when closing so they start-up the next time you open Firefox.
As everyone's saying the favorites will all transfer over so you don't have to worry about losing them all. It will ask you after installing if you want to import all the bookmarks from such and such browsers you currently have installed.
Also, another nice feature compared to IE is you can download add-ons/plugins. You can completely change the look and feel of the browser by changing the themes, which can be googled and found very easily (search for Firefox themes if you interested).
I have been very pleased with the Firefox 3 release and will def continue using it. Give it a try! It can't hurt. If you don't like it simply uninstall from Add/remove programs in the control panel. |

If you don't like it you could always try Opera!

I had IE 5 or 5.5 freeze at times but never froze at 6 and especially IE 7 was steady as a rock.
Many apps are developed by the Mozilla community such as Firefox, Thunderbird,
SeaMonkey, and more.
IE is embedded so deep in the core of windows OS, just try and uninstall it.
A risk of total system failure is possible.
Play with FF a short time and you'll be flying solo in cyberspace in no time. |

Try Firefox for a month and you'll never go back! | Thank you all for all this information. Dr., this link just solved my biggest issue with FireFox. Thank you so much for the link. Any other tips around this browser would be so appreciated. I've used it exclusively for only 2 days an it's so much more inter active.
More info. please.

Regards,
Len | I used IE, then I decided to do a little experiment. I tried Opera for a while, then I started with Firefox. You can guess, I'm using Firefox now . I thought that IE is easier for use, but Firefox is great. There are a lot of ad-ons and it's more safe for browsing the web than IE. I made similar environment in Firefox as I had in IE, downloaded Google toolbar etc. and everything is perfect.
I guess you already transferred your bookmarks, but there is a way to do that: open Bookmarks menu in Firefox then choose Organize bookmarks/Import and Backup/Import HTML, then choose a browser and follow steps.
I hope it's everything OK now .

Everything is going great!! I love this browser.
Thanks for all the replies above!!! They are appreciated.
I do have a question. How do I delete browsing history etc. It was accessible through "Tools" in IE. There is a Clear Private Data option. But it's so fast that I'm not sure it's doing the job.
Thoughts on this?

If anyone is interested in an app that improves IE 7 try IE 7Pro. Gives it functionality closer to FF and Opera with improved tabs drag & drop next tab, more than one home page, faster surfing, listing and a lot of other facets. IE7Pro - The Ultimate Add-On for Internet Explorer the site to find out all about it.

Thank you Gunner. It's amazing how FF can take just about everything you can do with a browser and speed it up. It's so much faster.
danjmilos - if you'd have linked me to that Add-On a couple of weeks ago I'd have been thrilled with it. I think though, that I'll be staying with FireFox for a while.

I'm learning the lay of the land. You should still add it to your IE 7 and start getting fimilar with it for when you use IE.

FF certainly is the way to go, I think there was a thread here? about FF's teams ability to find and patch vulnerabilities in their program, the only problem I've had with FF is the occasional "lets go nuts and make a mess of things" days but after 3 years of using FF this has only happened 2-3 times so at best once a year and a patching problem where it keeps telling me it has failed to update, update manually then fails that as well but eventually fixes itself

With Opera no need for patches, you get the whole browser updated everytime they find a problem. To many times patches get worked around by the same nasties.

I've now been using FF for over 3 weeks and will never go back to IE.
This is a wonderful browser and I'm finding new and time saving things all the time.
