Is Netscape still alive - I heard the nasties at AOL were going to kill it?

You can still get Netscape - Software Releases :: The Netscape Archive but it is no longer supported.

My interest was more nostalgic than anything else - I used to use Netscape before there was anything else - or at least it seemed that way!

Ah, nostalgia! Backache pills used to cure it, you know.
I can remember using Netscape in a library somewhere to look up information kept by Reuters on line - which we had to pay for by the minute on line. Must have been before I was born, way back in about 1990 or earlier, perhaps?

I was skeptical about adding Netscape since it is basically obsolete but I do see it being used in HJT logs now and then so I figured I would add it to the list. If I start seeing security issues with it then I will remove it but for now I think it's OK.

I didn't mean for netscape to added to the list, i just meant to point out that it is still available.

So it was, i didn't spot that. You have it listed under windows only but most versions support windows, Mac OSX, and Linux.

Thats ok mate. It seems that version 8 is windows only but all the other versions including 9, the most recent, are available for the 3 platforms.
Have a little look at my link in post #6.

I have just downloaded Google chrome yesterday and I like the simplicity of it,not to mention the speed.I must admit I find it hard getting used to a browser without a separate search box. |

I use Opera. It is definitely faster than IE7 and Firefox. The ease of changing skins, adjusting the color of the skin, mouse gestures, it is just a real pleasure to use. There is so much one can do to set to your likings what is not to like.
