Web Host Advice Please :)

I'm undecided about getting a bulk reseller account or a dedicated server.

I currently pay about 150-200/year with separate small hosting packages, buying databases etc separately and as my hosting is running out it make scene to get a bulk hosting service or a dedicated server.

For bulk account I'm stuck between

The Bulk User (Reseller) Package - Resellers - Streamline.net - The home of good value web hosting £80/year
and
http://www.tigit.co.uk/?a=webhost (the reseller one) £150/year

For Dedicated server I'm stuck between

Freedom 1 - Servers - Streamline.net - The home of good value web hosting £330/year
and
http://www.tigit.co.uk/?a=dedi (3800+) £490/year

I guess half the problem is the ever declining number of independent hosting companies - I use a little one near Norwich but my needs are far less than yours - just a dozen or so sites I look after for clients and all of them very basic.
One bit of advice tho' - pick one where there is someone you can talk to!

Web Hosting by DreamHost Web Hosting: Web Sites, Domain Registration, WordPress, Ruby on Rails, all on Debian Linux!

Here, you can get the whole shot. They are currently running a special limited time sale. Go check it out, they are indeed very good. I used them! I don't anymore, but I know if I were to ever do go back to webhosting, and all that stuff I would go for them because of the great service I got from them and all the packages that you can use and don't have to use but are included. Check them out, you just might be surprised.

If you have any questions concerning before signing up, they are really good about answering specific questions. Go ahead and contact them if you have some questions before signing up. They may have what you need, and if they don't they will probably send you in another direction that does have what you are looking for.

Good luck!

Alrighty! Didn't know you weren't looking for new host, sorry about that. But now you know it's there for future reference like you said.

Thanks CJ yeah I'll check them out.

Looks pretty good. I'm going to have to decide what I want to work with first tho VB/ASP.net or Python/PHP. Obviously for .net I need a windows server and linux for the other.

I've got to make my decision in the next few weeks anyway so I'll let you know who I go with. Streamline.net are who I'm with there so moving would be smoother and there service has been perfect and the other hosting is a friend of a friend so contact would be really easy.

As Burton is a lot closer to me than Norwich I might well get in touch with you if I decide to make a change. I like to meet the people and have a look at their server room - just to make sure there is no cheap and nasty kit in there!!

THEPLANET is a very good provider.

--------

There is a very old saying that says "If you want something done right, then do it yourself".

My site server solution have have a cluster of two apache frontedn servers (PHP+Apahce+2 IP)

and if One our server for host is down in a cluster we would have
onother one to pick up site, because they both have the same settings and config since theyre pulling that info from the same DB from seperate server for mySQL (because this...there is no localhost for DB - Apache is fully patched)

We have there by hand Total Control over SOA, A, MX, CNAME, NS records and TTL
8 minutes propagation delay for any additions or updates :

Web server managing by hand:

WebSite : EUnet
