Cool Integrated Video on the Intel G31/33 Board

Some of you may recall I questioned the readings from SIW showing 128MB video ram on my motherboard. Well, I went into bios when I turned the puter on this morning to 'look' at what was there. Visited the Video Configuration and saw:

DVMT MODE
IGD DVMT Memory: (was 128mb) I changed it to Max
[said: selects memory size allocated to graphics O/S Driver] HUH???

IGD Apeture Size: 256MB

so, what is DVMT Mode? What does IGD DVMT Memory mean?
and What is IGD? (Integrated Graphics Device?) Apeture size the 'opening' to cap of capabilities?

Am I ok to leave the DVMT Memory at Max? or should I change it back to 128mb?

thanks,

First, if you were not having any problems, I suggest you may want to leave the bios settings as they were.

Second, your mobo manual explains what DVMT and IGD means. I seem to remember giving you a link to your mobo manual in your other thread. You`ll fine the post HERE.

DVMT=Dynamic Video Memory Technology.
IGD=Integrated Graphics Device.

The DVMT if enable, which it should be, will allocate extra memory to the graphics processor as and when needed, so really, there shouldn`t be any need to alter it`s settings.

If you read the manual thoroughly, you`ll soon find out what all the settings are for. Just make a note of any setting, before you change them. Then, if the results of a change are undesirable, you`ll know how to set them back.

Since changing the IGD DVMT Memory to max, my FF game is using less total resources--down to around 30% from over 50%

I tried to read the mobo manual, Howard, but overall it just does not make a lot of sense to me.

If I start having problems, will change the memory back to 128...

thanks

That`s great news and hopefully you won`t have any problems vikki.

Give it a few days and if nothing more needs to be done, you can mark this thread as solved.

Regards Howard
