[SOLVED] What's this cable for?

Came with my ATI 4850, i didn't know what to do with it and it fits perfectly with the cables that connect my ps2 to the tv. What does this cable do?

S-Video to Composite Video (RGB) adapter cable.
Allows you to connect from the S-Video output of your GFX card to the RGB composite video input on a monitor

In short, no.

If you are using the cable that comes with the PS2, then it is a different type. The one in your picture is for video only, whereas with a composite cable (yellow, red and white connectors) it has the video all in one cable (yellow) and the sound in the other two.

See here for info: RCA connector - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia It has a lot of information on the different uses and the colour coding.

With RCA connectors they are colour coded, so all you have to do is match the colours up. If you have a cable that has the same colour ends on it, then you can use your one, but by the looks of it, all it is is a Component to S-Video adapter.

For example you could use it to convert a Component cable from a DVD player to S-Video, for a TV that does not have Component inputs (almost all CRT TV's).

I can't tell you whether you can use it with your monitor or not, because I don't know what you're trying to plug into it or whether your monitor even has Component in/output.

Well going by what you've said you cannot use it on your monitor at all.

Neither can you use it with your PS2 unless you buy a Component cable. But if you were doing that you might as well buy an S-Video cable straight off the bat because either way you're going to end up with the same thing.

If it came with your graphics card then I'm guessing it has an S-Video out on the back. That cable will be for converting S-Video into Component, for connecting to newer TV's (not CRT).

Some people do for some reason, I don't know why as I've never felt the need either.
