One mod i did for a friend a while back worked well. I had a slot cooler with a jammed fan that I was given. I stripped the dead fan out then fitted it in my friends pc as a duct. It worked very well and stopped his graphics card from overheating.

There's a lot to be said for ducting.

Hey Tom, I noticed that your computer is very similar to the one I'm building, especially that video card. I was planning on getting that one, so I was wondering: Do you play games on there, and if so, which ones? What settings? Framerate? Sorry for playin' twenty questions but I'm just wondering cause I want to know what to expect should I get a build like yours. (btw, the processor I'm using is actually better: AMD Athlon 64 X2 7750 Black Edition)
Thanks

I'm sure you will run at least 60 fps on many kinds of games.
I'm sure crysis will let you plays around 30 fps, if it is being nice enough.
I gets 15 fps on Call of Duty 4, because my computer is old. I recently pulled my 9800GT and move it to new system, and it runs much better.
My old config
AMD Athlon 64 +3800 X2
ASUS A8N-SLI SE
4x 512MB DDR-400
Enermax NoiseTaker I 485W power supply
My New config
Intel Core 2 Duo E7300 45NM core
Asus P5QL-EM ( Set with EPU-4 as auto )
2x 1GB DDR2-800
Corsair HX520W Modular Power supply
With the new system, i gained just over 30fps more, so that's pretty much as huge upgrade.
Beside, if you are looking to gain a few more fps or improve your system performance, you might want to consider to move from IDE( PATA ) to SATA II.

Going by the specs I'd say it's a desktop.
I had an XP-M in my old PC, because they're made for laptops (but still fit in desktop mobo's and work perfectly fine) they run a bit cooler and can withstand higher temperatures.
They also have unlocked multipliers too, if I remember rightly.

All ya gotta do is click on my system specs to see my build.
The XP-M is indeed a laptop processor, and yes it has an unlocked multiplier as well. Problem is that it's not entirely compatible with my current board and therefore I have to use an application to get it running at full speed (w/o the app, it runs at 800mhz). On top of that, My Computer as well as other programs see it as an Unknown CPU.

Interesting, but it will run slower with 9800GT, so it would be best idea to move to newer build |
