Haha fair enough mate
I got rudely awoken at 8.30 this morning because a fuse had gone on one of our boats so they couldn't start the engine, had to be up around then anyway but still didn't like being woken up
My mate should be turning up in a min but when he's off I might have a bit of time to get some screenies

I will tell you a little story Sam. A pc I had many years ago used to shut down during the summer months. I added several extra case fan and all they did was make it run a little longer before it shut down. After some testing I figured out my graphics card was overheating and causing the problem. A very thoughtful friend that helped me track the problem down bought me a bay cooler amongst other things for my birthday. I fitted it above my graphics card (i.i. not the side of the card that already had a fan on it) and hey presto, no more shutdowns, even on the hottest days of summer. I had that pc for a further 3 years like that without a single problem.
Nowadays I have a bay cooler at the top and one at the bottom of my card bay and it keeps my pc lovely and cool.

That was worthy of the tales from the toolroom - which reminds me of another tale...

I can post in there if you like Albert.
I also have another little story that could also be of interest.

Not sure if I have room for a bay cooler.
And I think the 8800s run about 80C and Nvidia new that and made them withstand it.... I hope it doesn't start to shut down on me.. *knocks on wood*

What would be more interesting is the effect of one of these on the ambiant temperature inside the case, perhaps. Based on the fact that the hot spots (CPU/bridges?PSU) all depend on cool air to lower their temps, what happens if that air is say 30C warmer - no brainer question in general terms but the actual effect would be interesting to know.

The case temp with my old setup used to be about 32C on a normal day, sometimes more in the evening when I have my door shut. Usually if the CPU went up a degree or two, a case temp rise followed shortly after, but then of course the warm air was just blowing onto the hsf which didn't cool it very well which meant that it tended to rise very gradually over time

You can get the same effect by parking the system case next to a radiator so that the air intake is already warmer than the rest of the room - does not take long for a system to warm up that way. Reminds me of another tale...

Go on - admit that you put it next to the heater to keep it warm!

I wonder what the effect would be to duct cold air in from outside through flexy ventilation piping? Might give that a try as I have some lying about somewhere... but don't hold your breath!

The back of my PC is against (well, about a foot away) from the wall with the radiator on, but it's over to the right a bit so shouldn't really make any difference.
That's a good idea with the outside air thing mate, I thought exactly the same after seeing Sam's comment
You could even try and get a fairly big fan and put that in it somewhere or on one of the ends so that it sucks a bit more air through as well, obviously at low revs though seeing as it'll be a biggun plus it'll stay quiet
We used to have some of that flexible pipe stuff but I think we chucked it years ago

I don't have a heat problem with my system despite the two graphics cards in there. It may be because it is an Antec case with two big slow fans. I am not sure I believe Everest any more tho!

The only thing I can see wrong is the steering wheel is on the wrong side and the driver is on the wrong side of the road.
