I am building a computer for a friend. They won't be doing much gaming right now so I just want to get them something that will be able to play, lets say, BF2 decent. That should hold them for a while. At least till there one son gets a little older and decides to get better games.
I am not really sure what the good lower end video cards are. I had a 7600GT that I loved, but newegg doesn't sell them anymore. And that might be a little to pricy anyway. I would say max budget is $65. Maybe $70. I would let them have my 7600GT but I am keeping it.
Gonna use that if I upgrade my dell at some point. so any suggestions would be great!
*Edit* well I found a 8600GT for $80. and after putting everything together I think it is in the price range. Doesn't make the build really high so that will work. Here it is though. Newegg.com - EVGA 256-P2-N751-TR GeForce 8600GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 SLI Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards
If anybody has suggestions though I am still open to them.
Now I am off to create another thread to see what people think of the build.

I appreiate that you may want to get all the bits from one shipper - I would not know who to suggest from this side of the pond!

Ya I am gonna try and get it all form newegg. It would definitely keep shipping cost down. The 8600GT that I found doesn't put me way high on price so I will most likely go with that, unless the price goes up on it. Sometimes they have $20 or so off then those get taken away and it wasn't the good price it was.

Personally out of the two I would go with the 8600 as it uses GDDR3 RAM as opposed to the 8500's GDDR2, plus the 8600 has twice as many stream processors.
You could get a 7600GS from them if that's any good.
I saw a 7600GT, but it was AGP and well expensive
I think that for the budget you're looking at, an 8600GT is the best option.

I think your right Dave. I would definitely go for a 7600GT but newegg doesn't have them anymore. So I think I will stick with the 8600GT.

Slightly off topic - how do you edit a typo in a title? Maybe only a Mod can do it?

Oh yeah, I never noticed that
Jason has changed it
And to answer your question, Albert, yes, only mods and admins can edit thread titles in vB

Maybe mate, you never know The future holds many things for TST and when we're bigger we'll need more mods.
Anywho, back to graphics cards please, although I suppose Sam has sorted this all out now seeing as this thread is a month old hehe.

Nice choice mate
Now, unless the brand new graphics card decides to explode and you want to decide on a different model to replace it, this thread has run its course

I hope it doesn't explode. Its all the way in NJ, so it would be hard to replace for them. Though I got a couple of friends there that could do it for 'em.
