I found a nice deal on a 8800GTS. See here --> http://www.techsupportteam.org/forum...html#post16891
Does anybody on here have one? how does it run? I hear these cards can get way hot. Now compared to this card --> Newegg.com - PALiT NE/960TSX0252 GeForce 9600GT SONIC 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards
How does it match up? The 8800 has a lower Core clock and memory clock speed than the 9800, but the 8800 has more steam processors and a higher memory interface. Would the 9800 perform better or are they about the same? I kind of don't like the idea of the 8800 running at 80C ( A review on newegg said his runs that hot, and I have heard they run that hot from other places as well). Not really sure what the 9800s run at but I am going to PM link590o and ask where his runs at. There may be no difference but I am not sure. So if anybody has any opinions on which would be better it would be greatly appreciated.
Also I am kind of scared my PSU isn't quite enough for it. its a 550W, I think it has a total of 32 amps. the card needs 26 amps, so will my current psu work?

It all depends on the combined voltage of the +12v rails mate.
That's a good price for a graphics card like that, but the 320 and 640MB GTS's aren't that great. The 512MB one is a brilliant card, but you're right about the others getting hot. IF you want a fairly good card for a good price then get it, but if you have more money then go for something else
That's my opinion anyway, think of it what you will

I have two 12 volt rails. so 32 amps combined. No good advice. Anything is better than my 7600GT though.
but that 9800 is a awesome looking card. and I don't think I want a card that is gonna run extreamly hot. as does that. and then like I said anything is better than my current card. so this is a pretty good deal. but since my current card does play the games I have, I can probably wait to get a better one.

Your card way owns mine anyday hehe.
Personally I'd wait and get something else when you have more money if you're getting on alright with your current card.
The 9800 is a great card and I wouldn't mind one hehe. Just not the GX2 I don't know if you already knew this but it's just two 8800GTS 512MB's stuck together with lower clock speeds, so you'd get better performance (and save money) with two 8800GTS 512MB's in SLI It might not sound quite as posh and next-gen, but it'd be better overall.

hmm thats interesting. way out of my price range anyway. Even if I saved up. can't see spending that much on a video card. I think I am gonna save up and get one of these. Newegg.com - EVGA 512-P3-N801-AR GeForce 8800GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards
the 8800GT one great card. not a bad price so by the time I wanna buy it, it may have come down a bit.
Thanks for the help dave.

No problem at all mate
You're right, the 8800GT is a brilliant card, especially for the money, and you can't really go wrong with one.
I realized earlier that if you had the two 8800GTS 512's in SLI instead of the 9800GX2, you could OC them as well and get even more performance out of it, still for less money
Any more questions feel free to ask mate.

I can't see why it wouldn't mate, if the combined 12V currents are 32A, that'll be just fine.
Just to make sure it'll be fine, what're the individual current ratings of each of your +12V rails, if you remember them?

Here are the specs for it.
Power Good Signal 100-500ms
Hold-up Time 16ms min.
Efficiency >70%
Over Voltage Protection Yes
Input Voltage 100 - 240 V
Input Frequency Range 47 - 63 Hz
Input Current 12A @ 115AC, 6A @ 230AC
Output +3.3V@30A, +5V@50A, +12V1@18A, +12V2@18A, -12V@1A, +5VSB@2.5A
MTBF >100,000 Hours
Approvals CSA,UL,TUV
I think it will run it fine. Not the best PSU in the world but it had 5 of 5 eggs on newegg. so it had good ratings. but they say Rosewill is bad PSUs. but mine is running fine.

I have decided to bin my two 7600 GS cards and get 2 x Gigabyte 9600 SLi as these come highly recommended by my trade mag. Not cheap but with a decent Gigaybyte SLI board this might be the best way forward!
Comment anyone?

I love newegg! I orderd the card yesterday, and it will be here tomorrow!
3 day shipping rocks. well actually its 2 day. But the thing shipped only about 4 hours away from where I live so that would be why. when I get it all installed and everything I will tell you all how it runs.
