Cool Upcoming Update to Windows Update

An infrastructure update has been planned for the Windows Update Client. The update will gradually be rolled out late July. This update will occur automatically to any system configured to either receive updates "automatically" or "notify" customers that new updates are available for download.

Windows Vista customers who select "never check for updates" in their WU settings will not receive this update until they manually install updates from Windows Update.
In this particular update, it will not change the way the client looks or feels to you, instead the following have been improved:

- The length of time it takes Windows Update to scan for updates
- The speed in which signature updates will be delivered

For more detailed information, please refer to the Microsoft Update blog.

That's good news, I think that WU takes a bit too long to search for updates, so it's good to see they've worked on it.

Maybe next they should work on the resources Windows Update uses when running. I can imagine lower spec computers running really slow when Windows Update is in use.
