Hi all,
I dont know much about hard drives etc for computers but I will try to explain the best way I can.
I have an Acer f5 running Windows XP recently I had a problem with Acers E-lock software which was sorted out, however, my cd/dvd drive has disappeared as in you click on my computer and try to go to the drive that plays dvd's/cd's its not there. I have gone in to device manager (like Acer support told me to) uninstalled the drive and rebooted and nothing, I just get message saying the drive is corrupt or has gone missing (code 39) while in device manager. Acer said I may need to get a new drive, I was just wondering if anyone can help me out with this problem?
Thanks
Troy

save to desktop
navigate to where you saved it and double click the file to extract the contents.
Locate the EXE file you extracted and double click it.
A confirmation dialog will appear when the script is done. You may need to reboot for the change to take effect
try that please

I too suspect it is the Upper and Lower filter registry entries that need removing.
Same/similar fix as above also on THIS site
Scroll down to Line 399 - Restore CD/DVD to Explorer To use the VBS File: Download .vbs file and save it to your hard drive (you may want to right click and use Save Target As). Double click the vbs file. You will be prompted when the script is done. |

Most often caused by 3rd party CD burning software, Roxio for example is a known cause at times
