Question Backup files

Hello everyone! Been a long time since I've posted here, I hope everything is going good!!!

Anyways, I was wondering. Is there a simple way of backing up all my files on my computer to my external hard drive? If there aren't simple steps to doing so, can someone explain step by step how I go about doing this? I'd highly appreciate it!!

The reason I'm wanting to back-up all my files is because I start using Linux for the first time tomorrow for school, and it said that it's unlikely but you can possibly erase all your files on your computer by accident and I really do not want to do that. lol So I want to be able to back-up all my files, "just in case" lol (knock on wood).

Thanks again to whomever helps me!!

Hi CJ
sorry your thread didn't get an answer before now - here goes:
1 - download a freebie or trial backup program such as Backup Genie Genie-Soft Backup Solutions :: Download Free Trial as this will include your email message folders and address book as well as the contents of my documents.
or
2 - drag and drop the whole lot once you have found the files you want to save
or
3 - write a batch file and use the xcopy command to copy the files across.
hope this is helpful

Which of the three you have given, is the easiest? Very curious...

Option 1 will be the easiest by far, unless you know exactly what files you want to keep and what files you don't.

If you have Maxtor hard drive in your pc then this - http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.js...00dd04090aRCRD will be the best solution.

Well I don't know what kind of hard drive I have in my PC, but I do have maxtor external hard drive that I want to back up my files too.

Now for option 1, do I just go step by step? I'm going to check it out and see what it says and what not if I can find that information out by checking out the link.

Let me know if there is anything I need to do if your online at this moment.

Hi CJ
yup - just follow the instructions and go step by step - you could opt to run the install instead of saving it if you like!
I use the Genie stuff myself; once it is set up I leave it to get on with it!
cheers
