I think that normally when problems like this occur it's because of the PC's BIOS not recognising more than that amount. Check to see if there are any updates on your manufacturer's website.

Was the XP Sp2?
Look in Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management.
Click on Disk Management and you will see Disk 0 will have the 127GB NTFS partition
and then the remainder after it will be Marked Unpartitioned Space.
Right click that and then choose the option to Create Partition and follow the wizard
to format the partition ready for use.
Worth a try.
Good luck. |

If yours is an Asus board, beware that they often fail to ship them with the latest BIOS updates so this may well be why your board is not seeing all the drive.
You may also have a faulty drive - I sent a 1 Tb drive back to Samsung because of a similar problem (the replacement worked fine with the main board as it was)

With all the time and technology that has come and gone with computers why must
we still use a floppy disk to flash the BIOS anymore? Most don't have flop drives.
Just have to live with it as some mobo mfgs will use nothing else. There are '
work-arounds sometimes but it isn't easy.
Good luck. |

Sam, I think you can use CD's for BIOS updates as well, so if you have a CD-R or CD-RW then you could try that. Just get the PC to boot from the CD instead of the floppy.

Once you have the bios sorted, make sure windows is updated to atleast sp2.

Some, probably older, bios flash apps are strictly written for floppy only.
Actually this is not without some reason as some suggest a bit error less likely
off a floppy than other media when we all know a corrupt flash could spell doom.
Flash not unless absolutely necessary. |

thanks for all the replies guys
abit specified it had to be done with a floppy disk, but i threw mine out xD
but making a partiction for the remainder of the hard drive worked a treat.. nice to have two area to install things aswell..
working aroudn the BIOS proved a much better idea.
is vista SP2 out now? or still SP1?

Vista is to SP1
XP is to SP3
you could always try Windows 7 - even only a beta but a big improvement!
