Hello
Can't burn audio in Windows Media Player [version 11]
Everything works fine when burning data disks.
It goes through the process of burning but somewhere in the middle it always fails with "Windows Media Player has encountered a problem blah blah"
Tried with different burning programs with the same result [or various BSODs - different codes each time it seems]
Tried at the lowest burn speeds. [same result]
Tried different manufacturers' disks.[same result]
Tried a different burner.[same result]
This has been ongoing for a few weeks - also when converting/downloading audio I sometimes get a BSOD [many different error codes]
I had a pop up about ffmpeg a few days ago - forget the details - think it said corrupted.
Have done scans for virus/malware.
Also ran an error-check on the hard drive.
XP Home
Any suggestions?

If you can post a few of your minidumps then we can see what is causing each of them.
If it is a different code every time then it's possible that your power supply is under too much load and can't handle powering the tasks you're getting the other hardware to do.

There's only one minidump left - I must've had a clearout. However it appears to be too large for the attachments.
What's plan B.
btw. I have swopped around the RAM.
And defragged.
Temperature reported as 44C.
INFO:
I found the minidump in: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson\user.dmp
edit:Thanks EF that's about all I could find too re ffmpeg.

Upload the file to Savefile.com There is no need to Register
Select Browse and locate the file.
Fill in the Title and Description and security code then click Upload
Copy the download link next to Your link to the file: and post the link back here.
You could also try re-installing WMP. I had some odd problems once with an mp3 player and after hours of frustration that's what fixed it. Seemed like nothing to do with WMP but it's components have to do with ALL audio/video, no matter if you are using WMP or not apparently. Typical M$....

I'll try reinstalling WMP too, thanks.
Here's the link to the mini-dump: Free file hosting by Savefile.com

Don't you have to put the files into the library first, then drag / drop them into the burn section from the library ?

Yes that's one of the ways I have tried, Oldie.
It just seems strange that it works fine if I burn a data disk.

What other burning software have you tried and do you have any cd emulators running?

I tried Nero, Starburn, one called Romeo burner, Pepsky [I think it was called] and several others that I can't remember now as I uninstalled them.
No CD Emulators running, that I know of.
I'm thinking of doing a complete fresh install since I've been having other problems too.

Perhaps uninstalling then re-installing all you codecs will help??

I think in my ineffable wisdom that this might be the motherboard. Sorry. If it is not the RAM, the software, the hard drive or the DVD drive then there is not a lot left. You could try reflashing the BIOS, perhaps?

As this is my "hate all USB devices week", try disconnecting all your extra USB devices to see if this has anything to do with it.

I haven't tried all the other audio programs yet but so-far so-good.
So, thanks EF.
Also, thanks to everyone for all the help and suggestions.
~Solved~
