No Sound While Using ASIO Drivers

Hello,

I am using a program called Fl Studio 8. In order for me to record into the program, i need to use an ASIO driver. However, whenever i switch over to the ASIO driver from my traditional sound card, i can see that the program is getting input, and yet there is no sound coming out. My sound card at the moment is a Conexant High Definition Audio sound card.

I did find one forum in which somebody made the point that when SP1 (which is what ive got) updates, it usually leaves the sound card update till last, or even fails to update it completely. Upon reading this i went and tried to update my sound card by having it search the internet for updates and then do it automatically, however, both times that i did this, a report popped up saying that an update had been found, but there was an error while trying to install.

If you guys could help me with either of these two issues that would be great. Thanks!

PS-If i need to provide more information, i will do my best to do so.

When you updated the drivers, did you remove the device first so that the existing driver is taken off?

The last batch of major updates for XP and Vista all seemed to screw up some drivers and in particular the sound card drivers.
Step 1 - go to the sound card manufacturer's website and see if they have released a new driver. If there is one, download it (don't let it run - just make a copy) to a folder where you can find it again
Step 2 - make a system restore point (start>programs>accessories>system tools>system restore)
Step 3 - go to the device manager in the control panel and find your sound card - delete it
Step 4 - restart the machine - if the system tries to reinstall the drivers for the sound card, stop it - and run the driver install routine you downloaded. Follow instructions and that should work.

Let us know - and don't forget to make a system restore point!
