Cool

This is being advertised as very safe and I do trust Comodo. It is still beta so use with caution!!

Comodo Registry Cleaner 1.0.0.12 Beta

Some notes on the Comodo registry cleaner. I'm far from an experienced reviewer so here is a simple review.

Download Size: 9.01 MB
License: Freeware
Requires: Win XP/Vista

Install was smooth, no toolbar offers or anything to avoid.
GUI is very similar to the Comodo firewall.
Has a startup manager as well as many settings including scheduled scans.
You can Cleanup, Compact and Backup the registry.
It gives an option to jump to the registry key or add it to the ignore list.
Also lists unsafe to remove entries.
Automatically backs up the registry before cleaning.

Overall I like it. Very easy to use and gives a lot of information on what you are removing.

361 errors found and removed. All is well.

I couldn't agree more that users should apply the deletes this program comes up with using GREAT caution, because while it also found a lot of errors, all was NOT well after they were removed.

I happened to visit relatives in HI over Xmas and took on the job of cleaning up my sister-in-law's virus and trojan ridden PC with bad HD clusters, etc., etc. During that project, I installed and used CCleaner (which I use at home), but also downloaded and installed Comodo's beta registry cleaner and tried it AFTER using CCleaner. It found a whopping (!) additional 915 errors. But after deleting them, I discovered that the msconfig command(using Run) wouldn't run; got error message that Windows couldn't find it. Restored the registry from prior backup, and msconfig worked again. Comodo is or will undoubtedly become aware of this serious bug, but as a result of it, I uninstalled it and will wait until they come out with ver. 1.0.

As an aside, I also installed and tried (free) EasyCleaner, which I had never heard of. It found about 400 items for deletion that CCleaner didn't, and everything still worked after doing the deletions. I was also extremely impressed with the breadth of features of this program (it does a LOT more than just registry cleanups) and with its user friendly interface -- so much so that I installed it on my computer the day I returned to the mainland.

If a computer is already running bad then a Registry cleaner is the last thing you should use.

They should all have disclaimers saying only run them on a healthy computer.

Absolutely right! However, the computer was in great shape by the time I employed the registry cleaners. The viruses, trojans and spyware had been removed, the HD bad sectors, lost clusters, etc. had been fixed (took 3 hours!), all Symantec (ugh!) products had been removed (took an hour), temp files cleared out, HD defragged. So IMO, the "disappearing" msconfig command was solely the fault of Comodo Registry Cleaner beta, and that was confirmed by running two other registry cleaners that left it intact; only Comodo removes it.
