I am going to see if my local PC repair shop repairs PSUs. I have one that I blew up big time about 6 months ago - I basically turned it on with the voltage switch at the back on 115v instead of 230v. Massive bang. I was very annoyed as it was pretty expensive (for me, anyway). It is a Jeantech 350w (JNP-350-P) and is of much higher quality than my current one. Is this repairable? If so how pricey would it be? thanks

I just found the tech support link on Jeantech's homepage. I emailed them asking if I can get it serviced (don't know if I'll get a reply though)

If all else fails, send it to me. I even have some Jeantech spare parts at the moment.

Is it usually cheaper to repair or replace? I found that model on ebay.uk for less than £10 or $20

I'll take that as a yes lol. I've never really messed around with a PSU, and I don't really intend to, but is it difficult to repair?

With psu's. it all depends on what has gone wrong and how much knowledge and skill you have with fault finding.
With my psu for example, it was only the rectifier diodes that had blown. I got 4 1n4001's at 4p each and that was all it needed. I knew how to test diode functionality so i found the fault easily.

I think when looking at repairs of this sort you must take into account the labor time. Even if you are doing the work yourself, the time you spend is time lost. If you are looking at it as a learning experience, then go for it! Otherwise I would just spend the £10. I have customers ask me if I can component level repair various electronics quite often, but once they understand the cost of the repair will actually be higher than the cost of replacing the item, most will opt for the lower cost.

I got an email from Jeantech, but it was regarding whether or not I could take it back to the store. I'm suprised how quick the reply came (better than microsoft, put it that way ) I responded saying I couldn't and explained the whole story. Now I'm just waiting for a reply. Quote: |

| Ok, Thanks for the offer

I'm curious... why don't you get the new one instead.
Advantage:
1) The new performs better than your existing
2) They might be cheaper
The repaired psu don't last very long.
Also you have to pay for shippings which it suck.
