Please move this if it is in the wrong section, thank you!
Okay, I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about the whole thing about supposed to be able to get tv through computers?
Well, my computer came with the whole deal... It came with the tv card or whatever it's called, and what not. We have cable tv, and I was wondering is there anything I need to have in order to be able to have cable "tv" hooked up to my computer?
I've read places where you need this, and that, and so forth. But I thought that everything already came with the computer in order to have cable tv through your computer. Also, would I need a "cable box" in order to like get on, on demand?
If this doesn't make any sense. Please let me know and I'll try and clarify my questions a bit better. lol Thanks!

You will need to have to have a look at the back of your TV card to see what sockets it has and if they are labeled.
It may be handy for us to also know the make and model of your card, this can be found in device manager. If you don't know how to get at the information there then i can give you instructions.
With that information we should be able to help.

I got to the Device Manager, and I'm going to take a wild guess that this is the information you need: + IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers
- ATA Channel 0
- ATA Channel 1
- NVIDIA nForce Serial ATA Controller
- NVIDIA nForce Serial ATA Controller (there's two in the list)
- Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller
Is this the information you needed? If not, lol then yes I do need your instructions on how to do it.

That's not the information needed, you need to have a look within Sound, video and game controllers.
I also have a TV card and mine is listed thus as an example:-
- Hauppage WinTV 848/9 WDM Video Driver
Mine is a pci card, i am assuming yours it too as you said it was part of your computer from new.

After having done some research it seems that your card is not capable of tuning to the signal that you get via your cable tv connection.
In order to get cable tv on your pc you would have to buy a tuner card or usb device that is specifically designed for your cable tv connection.
Sorry to be the barer of bad news.
[Edit] you will probably need something like this - http://www.hp.com/united-states/camp...ect/index.html which i came across by putting my mouse pointer on the phrase tv card in your original post.

Okay, well that sucks. Would I be able to get at least regular tv channels? If that makes sense.
Also, what's the point in putting a tuner card in a computer system if you are unable to use it?

Via an aerial (antenna in the US) you can, but not from your cable connection at all with the card that you have.
I have the exact same problem with my card too.

You know, they should put some information for that when you are purchasing a computer with that card. I mean it would let others know that if you get this card it doesn't work with cable tv, and whatever else it doesn't work with.
Just my opinion.

Information about your tv card should be in the manual that came with your computer.
Mind you, that doesn't mean that is actually written in a way that it can be understood without holding a degree in gobeldygook.

You have to remember that a majority of the sales staff that sell pc's don't actually know very much about them if anything at all.
It may be possible to get a usb, cable tv tuner very cheaply.
This is an example and is not the actual device that you'd need - Amazon.co.uk: Hauppauge WinTV USB TV Tuner: Electronics & Photo

Oh I know you can buy those. I just hate spending more money when I thought I got what I needed in the first place. If that makes any sense? Anyway! I'm going to go to bed. So goodnight, and thank you for answering my questions! I appreciate it!!

The tv card will work fine if you connect a uhf tv antenna to it.

Information on your particular card seems to be a bit scarce. If you could have a look at the sockets on it and tell me what it says by them i may be able to figure out what they are all for. I had a good google for a picture of your card but couldn't find anything.
I just had a thought, if your cable box has a rf or uhf output then it may work on your tv card, but, you will only be able to see whichever channel your cable decoder is set to show (i am assuming the US cable system is similar to our UK one).
