You really need to try a different graphics card, I`m afraid.
Or, take it into a pc repair shop.
Regards Howard | I'm afraid you're right, Howard.
However I'll be taking it to a legit shop, y'know the sort that do proper work and have guarantees of workmanship and parts.
Thanks very much for your help, everyone.

Graphics connectors are by tradition a fine shade of blue.
If you have on-board graphics on the motherboard and you take out a fitted graphics card it will default back to the on-board one.
From what you say you have a bad graphics card - but if this all started with a thunderstorm I would just put it all back together and take the modem out before you commit to spending money in a shop!

Looking at the picture of the back of the pc, it's the light blue connector provided it has 3 rows of holes in it, its a bit hard to make out. If it only has 2 rows of holes then its a com port not a graphics one.

I believe your motherboard uses Award bios BiosCentral - Award BIOS Beep Codes 1long, 2 short
Video adapter error Either video adapter is bad or is not seated properly. Also, check to ensure the monitor cable is connected properly. Repeating (endless loop)
Memory error Check for improperly seated or missing memory. 1long, 3short
No video card or bad video RAM Reseat or replace the video card. High frequency beeeps while running
Overheated CPU Check the CPU fan for proper operation. Check the case for proper air flow. Repeating High/Low
CPU Either the CPU is not seated properly or the CPU is damaged. May also be due to excess heat. Check the CPU fan or BIOS settings for proper fan speed.
Which one matches what you are hearing ??

Is this your motherboard, from the specs and pics. there is no onboard video. That looks like a Serial port, can try removing your memory sticks /then reinstalling the memory sticks/ also reinstall video card. Is it working now?
Also inspect the motherboard for swollen/bugling capacitors.( Heres a sample) |

Good luck with the pc shop thing MightyQueenCarolyn. I`m still fairly convinced this is a graphic card failure. Fingers crossed that there`s nothing else wrong.

Your post got me feeling rather adventurous though .... and thinking .... more later ... Quote: |

oops - off topic alert! | The machine was just returned from a psuedo comp shop so the least they could do properly was clean it.
HOWEVER!!! *ahem*
I had the card out and took it outside to have a better look and it was absolutely full of gunk and fluff. I gave it a blow out.
Thanks for the use of your wee hoover; it works a treat ... more later .... Quote: |

Also inspect the motherboard for swollen/bugling capacitors. | Nothing swollen but my wee head , then (now for another reason) but your post got me to thinking as well, thank you ....
Thanks everyone for the encouragement to try this myself.
Upon spying the gunk on the card, I cleaned it out and reinstalled it.
I then, once again Googling on my other computer to see what the stick looks like , figured out how to remove it (simple, once you know how ) and after inspecting for dirt, blew it and reinstalled it.
Blew out the rest of the insides after checking for bulbious thingies and (leaving the sides off, just in case) powered up and he go!!!
I realized I was holding my breath so exhaled while I plugged in the monitor and he go, too.!!!
So, I have a swollen head (and a minor brain ache, but worth it) from being able to do this, mself, with your help TST peeps.
Now, if I can successfully hook him up to the Internets, I'll mark this puppy solved. Quote:

Going to try to get him back online, now .... stay tuned ....
