I've said no. The reason for this is because I don't really think you could do all this. Yiur going need bandwidth, good amount of ram ect. This is why we have hosts - so you don't have to go through all this trouble as well as owning a site. You could find a cheap reliable host that would suit your needs fine.

I use Lunarpages.

They can be found here. The best plan IMO would be the business account purely for it's unlimited disk space. However, the Basic Plan would be more than enough for you.

There are a few good reasons to set up your own lamp server. I use one to develop and test PHP scripts before deploying on my hosted websites. A live site on a shared hosting account is not the place to find out that there is a never ending loop in your code. Also if you have a slow internet connection or are paying for bandwidth used, it is better to code locally and only upload a finished product. This saves you time and money.

Setting up a public facing server is an entirely different matter. First the cost of a viable ISP pipe is not cheap. The security issues of a public facing server can be rather daunting as well. Then you must factor in the costs of keeping the site up if you have a hardware failure or the power goes out. So I would recommend you develop locally and publish using a web host.

I didnt know what to put as my answer is mixed of different things.

I am going to be setting up a new computer for a home web server, but i am using MS Server 2008 or 2003. I wouldn't use XP Home, Pro maybe.

I am upload upgrading it with a better CPU, RAM and HDD.

What are the specs of the computer?

Although the original parties are gone, if your dedicated web serving, theres not alot of need for a vast ammount of RAM, and for the price it'll cost you in bits to try and build your own, buy a webserver, it will be low spec, but thats all it needs to be, theres no windows OS etc to run.
