Hi, I have a strange problem.
I use a Belkin wifi router here. It is connected to the ADSL line.
Then we use these computers:
1) 1 Mac connected to the Belkin router by LAN cable
2) 1 Mac connected to the Belkin router by wireless airport
3) 1 PC Ubuntu connected to the Belkin router by USB wireless antenna (SITECOM)
they can surf the web very well (10 MBit connection: I download at max. 850 KByte/sec. - not Kbit).
I have another old PC too (Athlon XP 2000+) with Windows XP Pro 32 Bit SP2.
As I connect it to the web by USB Wireless antenna (D-Link DWL-G132), all the other computers surfing get congested. Even a simple jpg image load in the browser... it loads very slowly, and sometimes stops too!
So I changed router, and installed a Thomson (given by the phone Company)... nothing... same problem.
But the very strange thing, is that I remember (in my past attempts) that even if I reboot the Windows PC, keeping the USB wifi antenna connected, it jammed the other computers... even before that Windows loads!!!!!!!!!!!!
I tried in another way:
- removed the USB wifi antenna from the Windows PC
- connected it to the Linux PC by LAN cable (direct: LAN to LAN, simple cable)
- tried to share the Wifi Linux PC internet connection to the Windows PC through the LAN... I was unable to do this, but, apart this problem (that I'm unable to make this sharing), the Windows PC again jammed the other PCs connections!!!!
Even if I don't configure NOTHING: as I phisically connect the lan cable of the Win PC to the Ubuntu PC, it immediately congests the other PCs web surfing... without configuring anything!!! (but this may have been a coincidence, because I tried only 1 time).
It seems that AS the PC enter in the network (just phisically), the network realizes this and get congested....
How is this possible?
any idea?
Thank you!

I have an idea that may work. It involves throttling your XP system so that it does not hog bandwidth.
Firstly, make sure drivers for your NIC are up to date, and make sure QoS is enabled in your router settings.
1) Open Run.
2) Type gpedit.msc and press OK to enter the Local Group Policy Editor.
3) Now on the left, expand the Local Computer Policy branch.
4) Now expand the Administrative Templates branch.
5) Now click the QoS Packet Scheduler so that it is highlighted.
6) Now on the right, look for Limit Reservable Bandwidth and double click it.
7) A window will appear. In this window, under the Setting tab, select Enabled.
8) Now play around with some numbers and see if it makes any difference. I recommend working from around 70% and working your way down in intervals of 10, e.g. try 70%, then 60%, then 50%....you get the idea. Note. The lower the percentage, the higher the throughput. Therefore if this solution works, make sure you get it to work with the least % possible to maximise throughput whilst at the same time solving your problem.
If this does not solve your problem, make sure you follow steps 1-6 again and make sure you select Not configured to reverse any changes made.

OK, I tried... it seems working.... anyway, in past, some days have been needed to let the problem become visible... so... I'll write again about on 2 or 3 dec. in order to let you know how it is going...
Thanks!

OK it works!!!
It seems very strange, because the Windows PC connection didn't congest the other computers while heavily surfing/downloading data (I made a lot of tests in past, and even when I didn't surf, with 0 bytes transmitted, it interfered with the other computers. It seemed that the the simple being "phisically connected" (by wireless or wire) caused the problem...
So I had some fear that the proposed and interesting solution couldn't work...
Anyway it worked! I tried with a 30% and the other computers surfing were OK. But here it was too slow... so I increased it to 80% and the other computers are OK!
Thank you very much Joshuashawharvey.
