Unhappy Another, another network question for the love of god.

Hopefully this will be last one.

Now, I just figured out this thing.

My landlord owned and subscribed the cable internet, and he informed me that i should be able to use the cable ( TV cable to be exact ) and use it as internet.

Question is that, am I be able to use the internet from the TV cable?

How can i do this and where will i find the good quality cable modem box?

Many thanks.

Usually you have to get a modem from the cable company. If you do indeed have a internet package then you should be able to get one from the cable company.

And what if they don't provide it, what is the alternative?

My landlord's internet box is from tv cable to the box and output is RJ-45 cable to computer.

Any info i can find out about it?

Sounds like a can of worms to me, BW!
If the output from the 'box' you mention is ethernet then it may be a router or a modem. The best way to find out is to connect your PC to it and then run IPCONFIG from the command prompt (cmd at Start > run) and see if you a) get an ip address from it and b) if you can ping (say) google.com
Let us know how you get on!

Problem with that, albert. I don't have the Coaxial card for my computer.

<Outgoing --------<Incoming-------<<Internet
=================
----------------------- O---
---===<<<<<<< OOO-
----==----------------O---
=================

The O shaped as TV cable, or Coaxial cable
The === shaped as RJ-45 is the output to the computer or to router.

My question is that, to use the special box to give me the internet, from the tv cable ? If so, where can i find it?

Usually, and I mean usually, a cable company will ping the cable modems in use.
One can run multiple connections off a router but modems may have to be
purchased from the cable company to be used. I have a similar setup here
but already had an extra modem so just called cable company and added mine
for a $20/month charge.
Good luck.

Went to cable company and i got the answer, but I will need the permission from landlord, so i went back and asked him.

he replied that I have to purchase the separated internet cable, which it could exceed 250 dollars to install it from outside.

I'm going to throw this thread away for now until i can move to the new flat.

Thanks guys for your replies on my thread.

A usb receiver is no good without a wireless transmitter you say is not available.
Unless you mean receiving some satellite signal like Verizon broadband anywhere
which is not cheap.
Good luck.
