[SOLVED] Lcd mic not working

Hi all and thanks in advance for any help.

I just bought a new lcd widescreen monitor,22inch which also has intergrated webcam and microphone. My problem is I installed the drivers that came with it on the cd,everything is working including webcam but I cant seem to get the mic working.I have connected the cable that came with it which has 1 plug at one end and a green plus an orange plug on the other end.I have gone into my options and it seems that this microphone doesnt even come up as a mic option in the Sounds and Audio devices Properties/Audio tab/Sound Recording section. The only option I get in this window is the Soundmax Digital Audio option or None. Here is a link to the specific lcd I got as a present.

Viewsonic

Hi Wayne
Couple of things to check first:
1 - cable connection should be from the audio out socket on the monitor to the lime green socket on your sound card/audio interface on the motherboard. I am not 100% sure but I don't think the DVI cable carries an audio signal.
2 - Assuming XP: Go to Start > Control Panel > System > Device Manager and check that your audio device is listed and there are no red or yellow marks on the list of devices. If there are, try reinstalling the drivers.
3 - If OK, go back to the Control Panel and head for Sound and Audio Devices. Click on Volume - advance and make sure the Microphone is not muted and the volume is about halfway.
Let us know how you get on?

Another thing to try, with windows live messenger, go through the audio and video setup on that. It may sound odd, but doing that can often sort microphone problems out.

Ok here is where I stand.I have done everything that you mentioned Albert even reinstalling drivers from cd and its still not working.I went into advanced controls in microphone and both bass and treble controls in tone controls are both set to minimum however I dont get the option to increase these, they seem to be locked????Another problem is that I used to use a logitech quickcam messenger with microphone and all I would do is plug it in and I would get the option of selecting it as my microphone but all I get in this window is the none option or the Soundmax HD Audio I option,I have no option in there that relates to anything abouty a monitor mic or any other mic for that matter.

Do you have another microphone to use to test if your sound device is working properly?

Thinks - I get the gut feeling that the driver set is the wrong one. Have you tried the site for a later version for this?
If all this fails I would seriously think about taking it back to the retailer. Sorry.

Yes the usb cable is connected as is a vga,dvi and the microphone/speaker cable which is a double at 1 end and single plug at the end which goes into the monitor.

I have even downloaded the drivers from the website and installed those but no luck with that either.

Not sure whether this will help but this is the window I get when in the sound settings,I am not sure whether this box is supposed to be ticked as I cant untick this box???

go to control panel -> sounds and audio devices
->click on the "voice tab
->THere you will see two sections, "voice playback" and "voice recording
->click the "volume" button under Voice Recording

THis is where you choose between using and internal and external mic.
Don't forget to adjust the volumes.

try that Wayne please

Wayne i noticed on the link you gave me they have a support feature

Make sure that the mic cable is connected to the Mic In port of the sound card and the other end is connected to Mic Out of the monitor/TV.

Verify that the mic is not muted in your sound properties. Right-click on the Volume icon in the System

First 2 troubleshooting steps

Have you installed the driver and software several times? If so, you could try uninstalling it with revo - Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Free and Full Download

I suggest you then boot into safe mode and have a look at device manager for any multiple device drivers and remove any you find then re-install.

It can't hurt to try.

Well I guess thats what I am not sure of,if this box is ticked does it mean that the mic is muted? Also I am sure that its connected properly< i wouldnt be the first 1 to be wrong either but there are no other plugs free on the back of the lcd and it is definately connected on the back of the tower properly. Are you talking about the link I included on the first post BM??

Maybe someone can direct you to the correct drivers
It might even be that they have given you faulty leads
Have a try and let us know please

Fingers crossed they know what they are talking about

Well here is another update, this is solved.I have no idea what I did to get it to work but the mic is working perfectly now lol.All I did was uninstall all of the software that came on the installation cd and webcam cd and presto it works.I am not sure if them drivers were somehow conflicting with the mic working as I havent heard of that happening before but it certainly looks like thats what was happening.Cheers all for all your help.
