My WMM is vesion 2.1.4026.0. There are two problems with it. 1. Unable to drag clips to storyboard/timeline. 2.Error message when importing files but files imported nevertheless.
I opened the WMM program folder and noticed something strange. Several files do not open as they seem to be in a password protected folder lock! I have a folder lock in my PC but how these files got in to it is a mystery . Could this be the cause of misery? Help please to resolve this. Thank you.

Presumably you have tried unlocking the relevant folders.
If MM was all working ok recently, you could try a system restore to that time. [Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore]
Also, what was the exact error message for # 2.
If you didn't try unlocking it, I would try that first, it seems a likely possibility. Personally I would uninstall the folder locker. [unless you really need it]

If system restore does not fix it a reinstall of SP2 will
It seems silly that Microsoft don't offer WMM as a separate download

Hai Dr Strangelove & Blackmirror
Thanks for the suggestions. The error message is an unspecified one. The folder lock was installed a year ago by my daughter & it is only trial version, with a few more accesses before it expires. Sadly she has not kept note of the password and has no files locked in it. WMM files were not locked in by her. The WMM was working ok upto 8 months ago since then I have had no need to access it. Now I need to use. Thanks again

Have you thought about reinstalling Sp2 or even Sp3 ?? | I can't uninstall WMM for two reasons one is that it does not appear in the add/remove programs. Secondly I am unable to uninstall the WMM via the program file because of the locked files. Yes I did download SP3 ven though my OS is Windows XP home, in the hope it might overwrite the 'corrupt' program

Hello Syedos. Regarding for your first problem, can you please post the exact error message you get if you do get one? Also, a foolish question, have you tried following the instructions as mentioned here?
As for a download of Windows Movie Maker, I think it is available here. They claim it is version 2.1 but it seems the version is 2.0.
Hope that helps. Good Luck.

Have you got your xp cd ??
try a reinstall
NOTE: You must be logged on as Administrator or as a member of the Administrators group in order to perform this procedure.
Click Start , click Run , and then type the following command:
%systemroot%\inf
NOTE : There are no spaces at all in the preceding command line.
Click OK to open the INF folder.
Locate the file moviemk.inf
Right-click the file, and then click Install . This will reinstall the files that Search needs to proceed normally.
You will be asked to place your windows XP cd rom in the drive.

Can you uninstall Folder Lock in safe mode?
I heard somewhere that that could fix it.

Version 2.0 | MS do not offer WMM as a separate download, they make you get SP2 for that. If you have an SP2 disc then re-install that, or if it is included in your XP disc then do what Blackmirror said in her last post in this thread so far.

Can you uninstall FolderLock using Revo?
The unspecified error originates from windows because of folderlock software.
If the version integrity of moviemaker is compromised, the steps to repair it would be
1. remove Folderlock software
2. confirm moviemaker integrity by going to Help>about WMM.
Line2 should reference either SP2 or Sp3 and line 4 should indicate 2.1.4026. If line 4 does not indicate that, a simple install of the SP3 update will correct the version integrity issue.
if the user would like individual assistance> www.desilucy.com > contact me page...
As a note...Sp2 will leave your browser version alone, SP3 will automatically update IE to version 7.

You should be able to, as far as I know it will work with anything. Try it out.

Thank you evertbody for all your help. I have cracked it. A year ago I intalled a trial version of Folder Lock which I had not used for a long time. Then opening my program folders (taking care not to alter anything) I discovered for, some unknown reasons program component file ending in .dll were locked in. I managed to remember my password & uninstalled it. Good heavens it is all working now. I have notified the software firm but they disclaim that this could happen with folder lock. They think I may have turned on the auto lock. Who would think of locking program components in to the locker. This explain why some of my other programs were behaving in a strange way. Now I can relax & get on with what I have to do. Bye, be friends

Glad to see you found your resolution.
For the benefit of others who may read this thread, another symptom that FolderLock software is present is if you receive an "invalid pointer" error message. | | Only registered members can participate in forum threads.
