Msn Sound Control

Ok so I hope i'm in the right place.

My aunt has been trying all morning to let her friend listen to something that is on her Windows 7 PC. So I had her webcame with me to see if it was the same problem. Sure enough I can hear everything else such has, her, anything in the background...but I can't hear what she is playing likewise she can hear everything on my side but the song I was playing.

I know with XP this was possible to do. I tried changing alot of settings and just can't see to get it to work, can anyone help with this? Or is this something Win 7 doesn't allow?

Any help would be great!

First, check that the speakers (she does have speakers?) are connected to the lime green output socket on the sound card on the back of the PC. If not, connect them.
Second, go into control panel > sounds and check that there is a device present. If not, check the drivers are installed. Chances are that if you can hear over the microphone then the sound card is present and working.
Third, Check the sound output is set not to mute (little speaker icon usually bottom right hand corner of the screen).

Thanks for your responce, I'll try to be more clear about this.

It's a laptop that we both have, speakers are defintly working on both.
The same thing happens on my side that happens on hers.
When camming what she is playing threw her laptop, I can't hear it...but I hear her, tv, dog and such in the background.
So we tried doing it from my end, I put on a song threw itunes & youtube...i could hear it perfectly but she couldn't. The only thing she could hear was me when I talked.

So it wouldn't be anything with the mute has we can hear our own files we play.

I've went threw all the sound options in control panel I just can't figure it out.
I'm usually pretty good with this stuff. Seems like something so simple.

Whatever this settings is only blocks out the noises my laptop or her laptop makes.

If you use msn & have a webcam, try it with a friend it may make more sense to what i'm saying...play a song and see if they hear it.. and off course using win 7 on Win Xp it works fine! We both have new laptops, i really don't think there is anything wrong other than a setting that I cant find.

I have come across this before - and I found in that case that Skype was turning off the microphone when the speakers are active. This might explain what is happening.

I read something like that online as well, but can't find a option like that on msn.
