Unhappy BSOD XP SP3 -- Help Please!!!!

I have an Acer Aspire 3000 laptop that gives me a BSOD multiple times per day.

I have run memtest, re-installed XP and my apps after a reformat, run chkdsk /r, tried to update every driver I can lay my hands on all with no effect.

Any assistance you can provide in how to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks all,

Pauline

Enclosed is the actual error message I receive along with the contents from a minidump.

I think your problem is the very fact that you're using SP3. I suggest downgrading to SP2 to see if that solves the issue. I know you said you reformatted, but you might have reupgraded to SP3 again.

The 0x0c2 error can be caused by faulty software, or a faulty driver. Since it seems you might have handled the various drivers, then I suspect the software. SP3 was loaded with bugs when it was first released, and it still may have some problems.

Have you tried running the machine in safe mode? This would confirm a software issue. I am great fan of Acers but have had a few through here with main board or power board errors.

Red face Thanks for the suggestions

I have tried downgrading to SP2, which reduces the # of errors, but does not completely remove them.

I can force the BSOD to occur every time if I try to unzip any compressed files on my Netgear NAS unit, or if I try to print out to my network printer.

When I am running in safe mode (with networking support enabled) I cannot get my network card to work at all.... I don't get the errors either, so it does seem to be some sort of a driver issue.

Any other suggestions?

Pauline

The driver for your NAS drive is probably out of date - I suggst you contact the makers and get the latest driver. If it is a Freecom you could try this site
XIMETA INC.
These people make the components for Freecom so worth a try.
