Neat tricks - there was also a set of tweaks to speed up the logon and logoff but I cannot find them anywhere - anyone remember? Or was it on the other place?

They have a guide for tweaks for both XP and vista. It even explains what each thing does and why you should or shouldn't tweak it.

Hi Donna
Well I groped about in the registry and system config and found I had already done everything suggested but clearly forgotten about and also failed to write anything about it in the system log.
Daft b ugger that I is.

It's a wonderful experience when you have XP tweaked to your liking. I have mine tweaked to the point where as soon as I log in, I don't have to wait for anything to load. I can just dive right in and start clicking whatever I like without delay.
This is in part due to a very thorough MSCONFIG, but also due to some timeout tweaks and other little tidbits that helped speed up the computer. I even went so far as to disable my indexing service because of all the wasted space. All it really does is speed up the search process when you're looking for a particular file. And even without it, it does things in a similar time frame.
What I liked about the tweakguides guide for xp was the fact that they taught a number of registry tweaks for things like turning off autoplay, changing the delay before a menu item appears when you mouse over it, and other nifty little things.
The guide is really really long though. That's the only drawback. But it's very clear about any dangers you may face by screwing around or overclocking. It's also got a dictionary of terms for those of you interested in enlightening yourself about what the front side bus is or what USB stands for, or anything else like that.
