Virus Found FakeAlert
I was having problems with my secondary OS (Dual Boot, both XP Pro) and I system restored it to shortly after the creation date.
The original problem was causing the system to crash on the initial startup but load successfully on the second attempt. It appeared to be a driver problem. After the system restore I ran a HiJackThis scan and found some suspicious files. I fixed two files (a missing file and I can't recall the other) and then came across a couple entries which prompted me to install and run AVG Free. I rarely use this OS (as its a backup) so it did't have AVG on it.
After I downloaded the latest version of AVG Free and performed a full scan, to my surprise it found a virus FakeAlert.
I followed all 5 steps in the Malware Removal Guide: Read Before Posting.
AVG Free found 2 files:
J:\Documents and Settings\Ryan\Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\96kqlkx2.default\Mail\Lo cal Folders\Facebook
J:\Documents and Settings\Ryan\Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\96kqlkx2.default\Mail\Lo cal Folders\Inbox
I no longer use Thunderbird but am waiting on further instructions before I uninstall it.
Thanks for any and all your help in this matter!!
Ryan
