Nasty antivirus fake

Multiple pop ups every minute. refers to Magic Software Inc. -- phony! asks me to buy their security program. ran a scan that I thought was my internal anti virus and reported multiple infections. Has installed a blue shield with white stripe on my bottom bar. No results from AVG acan. seems to have removed my yellow anti-virus shield from the bottom bar. I am clueless on what to do.

AVG failed to see it because it is not a virus. Do not under any cicrumstances respond to requests to pay for and download a fix - the fix is often a trojan and the payment process may take more that you expect from your account. Have you tried following the malware removal guide?
These things appear under many different names - if you are lucky you can uninstall it using the add/remove programs option in the control panel.
Another thing you can do if there is a new shortcut on your desktop, right click on it to see where the link leads and then move to the file it points to and delete it.
If not let us know and we will see what we can do.

thank you so much. I was able to get it off my computer using the steps provided by the tech support guys on removing malware--which I did not see initially. It took all the steps before the popups stopped. right clicking on the icon gave me no usable info and there was nothing on the remove programs menu that I hadn't seen before. The stuff I recognized as malware showed up using the cookies and anti spyware downloads. As they whizzed by I saw references to the magic co. which I knew to be the fictitious name. We are talking hours to remove this nuisance, so thank you once again.
