System instability and Explorer halts

Hello!

I'm using XP pro 32 bit SP3 here.
The computer has been just hardware-upgraded (motherboard, cpu, ram, hard disks, svga, etc....), and re-installed (only used apps).

But after a few weeks, it is giving problems.

For example, if I look for a file using the "search" function of Explorer, after a long time I found an error-message-window about a block of the application: I had to click on OK and Explorer was relaunched.

This for 3 times!

Using other apps., sometimes drwatson blocks, and I have to terminate it using task manager...

Other times, other apps blocked, explorer too...

I know that about two months ago, another person used an infected pen drive: the AVira Antivir shield alerted him, but after 3 or 4 "deny access", he clicked on "x" and in the history I read that the program made a "allow access".

After some hours I removed the virus from the usb pen drive, and I made a full scan, but it found nothing!

What should I do?

Please, if possible, tell me to use already installed programs (Spybot S&D, Antivir) and/or online scanners, because the owner of the PC told me "don't install anything else" when re-configured it!

Or at least let's use stand-alone programs, if possible, or as less as installations possible.

Thank you!
