[SOLVED] Virus name found, but not shown as an issue

Hi

Norton just started scanning the other day and I noticed that it was passing some suspicious looking files, Backdoor and trojan etc. Norton did not see them as a virus and just went over them like any other file. I've tryed avast and AVG and both don't see any virus's (although i cannot see if it passes the file). This happened on 3 computers. I decided to do a clean install on them as there was quite a bit of junk on them that i didn't need, aswell as this problem. Hoping that it would go away on the reinstall after the format, it didn't.
During the installation, the computers were not connected to the internet all the router, so they had no contact with each other. Norton was installed before the internet, and the scan aswell. The thing that seems strange to me is that the virus names all seem to come in one big line, one after another and then continues to the normal files again or as far as i can see. The virus's are also fine in the Norton Quick scan, aswell as the Full scan if thats any help.

All the computers are connected through a router

Thanks

Hello and welcome to

Go and read the Viruses/Spyware/Malware, preliminary removal instructions. Follow all the instructions exactly.

Post fresh HJT, AVG Antispyware and Combofix logs as Attachments into this thread, only after doing the above.

Also, let me know the results of the Panda Antirootkit scan.

EDIT: I advise you to consider getting rid of Norton as it`s absolute rubbish. Take a look at this thread HERE for details of how to get rid of it.

Regards Howard

This thread is for the use of Halusuk only. Please don`t post your own virus/spyware problems in this thread. Instead, open a new thread in our malware Removal forum.

Norton is terrible at picking infections up, so it is acting completely normally and it is not a problem.

However, if it has let some lovely malware in, you'll want to get rid of it, via Howard's instructions Then I expect you'll want to replace Norton, but we'll save that for when your infections are cleared up.

Edit: Or Howard will give you the link now Either way, as long as Norton is gone then it's ok.

This may infact actually be the norton virus definitions, and not actually viruses, trojans ect.

Just follow the instructions given by Howard and we`ll know more.

If you can see the file location scan it with Jotti and/or Virus total

And reply what the search/s come back with, It should shed some more light onto what this infection is.

Once I`ve seen the log files, I`ll know what infections are present, if any. Then, I`ll be able to issue further advice.

Smitfraud

Just wondering about this file below which was created by the SmitfraudFix program. The program just seemed to cut off suddenly, then i looked at that file and it said host file corrupted in it. Tried running it a few times and it just cuts off still.

Thanks

Don`t worry about that mate. Just post the 3 requested log files and we`ll take it from there.

If this is the case, please follow the rest of the instructions and post the three requested logs. (Four if you use the DSS instead of Combofix).

Good news, everything looks clean.

Your problem is therefore likely to be Norton related, rather than malware related. This could possibly be solved by using a different security product.

However, even if you don`t, I can`t see anything for you to worry about.

If you have no further questions could you please mark this topic Solved by going to the top of this thread and click Thread tools, then select Mark this thread as solved As seen in the image below:

I recommend

Either Free AVG Antispyware, Kaspersky, or BitDefender. But remember only 1 of them otherwise you will have problems.

Take a look at this thread HERE for a list of recommended security software.

Just remember to run the Norton removal tool that I linked you to in my post #2.

If you have any further virus/spyware problems, please post in this thread.
