Trojan on my computer

Hi! I have a virus on my computer and I have not been able to remove it myself. I have begun to get error messages saying something about my hard disk.

I have started to follow your instructions by running ccleaner. I did it twice but I don't think it did any thing. Here is the log:

ANALYSIS COMPLETE - (0.048 secs)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
24.82KB to be removed. (Approximate size)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Details of files to be deleted (Note: No files have been deleted yet)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Owner\Local Settings\Temp\IadHide5.dll 24.04KB
C:\WINDOWS\Internet Logs\ZALog.txt 807 bytes
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I would appreciate any help you can offer.

Thanks,
Sue

I totally didn't understand the section on renaming HijackThis. It made an icon on my desktop and I renamed it, but it still shows up as HijackThhis on my start-up menu. Here's the scan results:

Hi Sue.

I don't think we are going to worry about renaming HijackThis at this point as I'm not sure this is malware.

A question.

Norton told me I had a Trojan. It gave me this name for it: VC3CFHaO3840. I ran Windows Live Safety scan several times it it detects something in my registry but can't clean it. Now, each time I leave my computer idle for a short while it I get an odd page that says: The system has recovered from a serious error. It gives me this info:

Error Signature
BCCode: 77 BCP1: C000000E BCP2: C000000E BCP3: 00000000
BCP4: 09647000 OSVer: 5_1_2600 SP: 2_0 Product: 768_1

Error Report Contents
C:\DOCUME~1\HP_Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERd182.dir00\M ini092808-01.dmp
C:\DOCUME~1\HP_Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERd182.dir00\s ysdata.xml

And it directs me to this page:
Microsoft Windows Error Reporting

(PS: I have since replaced Norton with AVG>)

This is indicating a hardware conflict, could be software but I can't tell just yet.

Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from and save it to your Desktop.

  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open.
  • log.txt <will be maximized and info.txt <will be minimized
  • Please post the contents of both logs in the next reply.

This doesn't look good.

System drive C: has 34 GB (48%) free of 69 GB
Total RAM: 383 MB (14% free)

When did you install Zone Alarm and did this start or get worst after then?

I believe it was Sept 1. A friend installed Zone for me in an attempt to clean the virus. The hard disk error started after that.

Uninstall Zone Alarm and see if it clears up please.

I have also started a new thread for you here > The system has recovered from a serious error < but have locked it until we see if Zone Alarm is causing this. It is known to cause problems for some computers.

I went to Add/Remove and removed Zone. I assume the Trojan is still on the computer because I was never able to clean it. Are there additional steps I can take to locate and remove this virus?

I'm still not convinced it was actually a trojan. Could have been a false positive but we will do another scan to double check.

Fiirst:

Download JavaRa
  • Unzip the file and open the JavaRa.exe
  • Click Remove Older Versions
  • JavaRa will search for and remove any outdated version of Java and remove any that are found.
  • Click Additional Tasks
  • Place a check next to Remove Useless JRE Files and click Go
  • Exit JavaRa
  • Delete the JavaRa files from the Desktop

----------

Run this online scan.

Requires Internet Explorer or Firefox using the IE Tab Add-on

Use the ESET Nod32 Online Scanner

1. Check the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use.
2. Click Start
3. When asked, allow the activex control to install
4. Click Start
5. Make sure that the option Remove found threats and the option Scan unwanted applications is check marked.
6. Click Scan
7. Wait for the scan to finish
8. Use notepad to open the logfile located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt
9. Add the C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt log into your next reply.

I'm confused. I downloaded it and it's called Spyware Doctor. Is that what it's supposed to be?
