im trying to work through the steps on the Viruses/Spyware/Malware, page (they are great btw thank you so much!) but im pretty dense when it comes to working computers and am stuck... on step 1. i dont know wat a real time monetering device is??? i have spyware doctor so do i have one of the real time things.
secondly does spyware doctor cover step 2??

step 3 is taking ages- 54 mins and only jus over half way, is that normal?
sorry if these questions are stupid, and i'll no doubt have more so sorry in advance.
oh and also iv completed step 5 befor step 3, is that okay. and the link in step 4 says the page can not be displayed... is this only happening to me.

new problem, iv got so far in step 5 and its now asked me for license information which i dont have... also if i were to leave my comp into pc world would they be able to fix it?

okay scarp the new problem i went to 'use free' and y does it say my message was edited by james ... whos that.

Hello conor and welcome to TST!

Please follow the steps in order, if you cannot complete a certain step, then skip it and carry on with the rest of the steps.

To disable real time monitoring for Spyware Doctor, follow these instructions:

1. From within Spyware Doctor, click the "OnGuard" button on the left side.
2. Uncheck "Activate OnGuard".

It can take time to run scans, please be patient and let them complete.

Once you have finished following the steps, please post fresh HJT, AVG Antispyware and Combofix logs as Attachments into this thread.

Regards Jason

This thread is for the use of conor ONLY. Please don't post your own virus/spyware problems in this thread. Instead, open a new thread in our Malware Removal forum.

Antivirus, firewall, antispyware shields
Quote:

No, you need an antivirus not just antispyware.
Quote:

Yes, depending on how many files are on a PC it can take hours to complete.
Quote:

Normally no. The guide is made to be worked in order.
Quote:

It loaded very slow for me, try this one to install AVG and go back and do that step after ESET is done. Download AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5.1.43 - filehippo.com

If you don't mind paying for what we can help you do for free.

You should be able to shut down with no problems. Doing a system restore is risky, sometimes malware will be there for a while before it shows itself.

You aren't bugging me mate, no worries.

Do this real fast if you have time. Go to the Hijackthis instructions and post that log so I can see what we are dealing with. It will take less than 5 minutes.

EDIT: I just read the Site Advisor review of that site and it is reported to be a scam site. If you downloaded anything from there then you may have even more junk on the PC now. Please post the HJT log.

Let m esee a HJT log and then we will go from there. I have never seen that site or removal tool so I don't know what to think of it.
Download and rename HijackThis (HJT)
  • Double-click on HJTInstall.
  • Click on the Install button.
  • It will automatically place HJT in C:\Program Files\TrendMicro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe.
  • Upon install, HijackThis should open for you.
    • Close HijackThis and rename it.
    • Go to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis.exe
    • Right click on HijackThis.exe and select Rename.
    • Type in sniper.exe and press Enter.
    • Right-click on sniper.exe and select Send To > Desktop (create shortcut)
  • From the desktop open Hiajckthis.
  • If using Windows Vista, Right-click and Run As Administrator.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button
  • Hijackthis will scan and then a log will open in notepad.
  • Copy and then paste the entire contents of the log in your post.
    • Do not have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.
Although we have renamed Hijackthis to sniper, we will still refer to it as Hijackthis or HJT.

The first thing I need you to do is uninstall one of the antivirus you have. Two are unnecessary and will do nothing but cause problems - slowdowns, crashes and false positives. I suggest removing Norton, but if it is paid and you would rather keep it then uninstall Avast. If uninstalling Norton then go to add remove programs and uninstall everything that has Live Update, Norton and Symantec in the name.

Then run the Norton removal tool to get rid of everything that Norton is notorious for leaving behind. Norton Removal Tool

----------

Now go to add/remove programs and uninstall Files Secure

If it is not found there then let me know in the next post.

----------

Open Hijackthis and select Do a system scan only.

Place a check mark next to the following entries: (if there)

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
O16 - DPF: {FFBB3F3B-0A5A-4106-BE53-DFE1E2340CB1} (DLM Control) - http://dlm.tools.akamai.com/dlmanage...ex-2.2.3.4.cab

Important: Close all windows except for Hijackthis and then click Fix checked.

Exit Hijackthis.

----------

Next go HERE and update your Java to the new version.

----------

The Files Secure 2.1 tool you downloaded and ran might have worked. Let me know if you found Files Secure in add/remove programs. If not then it may have indeed worked.

After completing everything then run this for a double check and post the log when complete.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (MBAM) to your desktop from either of these two links.
  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad.
  • Please copy and paste the log into your next reply
    • If you accidently close it, the log file is saved here and will be named like this:
    • C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\mbam-log-date (time).txt

----------

Next post please add
MalwareBytes log

Which antivirus works and which doesn't? You should only have one installed at any time.
