Re: vixta?

Yes, I have seen it. They have just cloned windows vista IMHO. But there again, it has it's advantages. Many people may go with it, as Linux is open source and it's free, therefore if it's like Vista many people would rather get it free than to pay for it.

Here's a screenshot - http://vixta.sourceforge.net/images/sto ... /vixta.png

I might get it and actually try it, you never know it might be good!

Re: vixta?

Actually, vixta isn't a clone of windows vista. Vixta simply has the look and feel similar to Windows Vista and actually it is a clone of Fedora Core 8.

Linux Gutsy Gibbon 7.10 is the latest and greatest Linux distro yet. There's an article via this link that explains more.

I tried it when it was first released, but I prefer the Gnome GUI, and Vixta only has KDE.
Studio2, I have to disagree with your opinion on Ubuntu, Linux Mint is based on Ubuntu and comes with DVD and sound codecs on the install, it can read & write to NTFS partitions and installing ATI or Nvidia drivers is a one click affair through a program called Envy.

For people wanting to try Linux I would recommend Mint over Ubuntu any day.

i dont think microsoft are going to Sue anyone for this as it only LOOKS like vista and is not a clone of it. if we are going to get into the "who will sue who" the really Apple could sue Microsoft as their designs of VISTA were developed after the applu GUI proved to be very popular.

Surely isn't there a copyright on the looks?

As explained in my previous post here.

It is not a clone of Vista. I could easily say that MS have copied some of the Mac features.

There has never been a definitive answer to the copyright status of the look and feel of a gui. When Apple tried to invoke a copyright suit against M/S, it was ruled that Apple had licenced the design elements to M/S, therefore the actual question of if copyright status could be claimed for a gui's look and feel was never truely answered.
