Smile 3D Desktop - Project Looking Glass

Quote:
Project Looking Glass is based on Java technology and explores bringing a richer user experience to the desktop and applications via 3D windowing and visualization capabilities. It supports running unmodified existing applications in a 3D space, as well as APIs for 3D window manager and application development. At the moment, existing application integration is supported for Linux and Solaris x86 platforms. The platform for 3D application development is available for Linux, Solaris and Windows platforms.

Project Looking Glass is in its infancy. We need your help to explore many ideas in the desktop and application space. We released the Project Looking Glass code to the whole community to explore every aspect of the technology rather than restricting access to a privileged few. We believe open development is an excellent model to pursue this exciting and vast opportunity. So get involved and let's innovate the computer user interface!

DEMO VIDEO !

This is really amazing.

It's little easy for Ubuntu(Hardy) users to install this.

Code:
wget http://javadesktop.org/lg3d/debian/dists/stable/contrib/binary-i386/lg3d_java3d_1.5.0_i686.deb
sudo dpkg -i lg3d_java3d_1.5.0_i686.deb

wget http://javadesktop.org/lg3d/debian/dists/stable/contrib/binary-i386/lg3d_jdk1.6.0_i686.deb
sudo dpkg -i lg3d_jdk1.6.0_i686.deb

wget http://javadesktop.org/lg3d/builds/daily/2007-02-08/lg3d-core_1.0.1_dev_i686.deb
sudo dpkg -i lg3d-core_1.0.1_dev_i686.deb
I can say that i can use lg3d without problem...

very cute... but basically a demo... and it is very slow...

It seems possible that maybe some of the cool Looking Glass effects could be pulled off as Compiz plugins.

Holy Shnazzle!

That video of the demo is really cool - bit like a keep fit exercise but if we can do the same with a bit of finger waving, who knows...!

Yeah that looks pretty neat like Jason stated, although the only thing I wouldn't care for is the taskbar, which shows the 3D part of the pages when they are minimized. I think that would drive me nuts. lol I don't know, I guess you'd have to use it to see what it's like instead of seeing how it's used in someone elses' hands.

Do you guys just like the prettiness, lol or just the cool way of how you can do things on the desktop? Just curious ha ha.
