If Art had a name, its name would be Sabayon. The most advanced, scalable and community driven Linux distribution of this odd world, brought to you from a fashion-leading country.
The Sabayon Linux 3.4 was released last month in a 4.2GB package available via FTP, torrent downloads, and direct purchase. The minimum requirements for the live DVD are an i686 processor and 256MB RAM (512 recommended).
Sabayon's boot screen offers users a variety of choices. Besides the options of language, keymap, screen resolution, and another menu full of other modes and options, you can pick:
* Start SabayonLinux 3.4 -- boots the normal system, including accelerated graphic drivers and your choice of Compiz Fusion or Metisse (with supported Nvidia or ATI graphics chip).
* Start without Music -- disables music during boot.
* Anonymous Internet Browsing -- purports to enable anonymous browsing
* Start Graphical Installation -- boots to Fluxbox and starts graphical installer.
* Start Text Installation -- boots the system and starts console-based installer.
* XsistenCe (Persistent Home) -- allows you to save personal configuration settings and files on a USB drive for future use.
* Play with Sauerbraten (Game) -- boots directly into the game.
* Play with Savage (Game) -- boots directly into the game.
Sabayon also comes in a Business Edition and usually a Mini edition. With all it has to offer, Sabayon has something for everyone:
that is why i prefer sabayon (for home use) - sabayon installed everything automatically and looks good, runs well. Downloads

I tried Sabayon on a Live DVD. It did not seem to work too well. I then installed Kubuntu as a dual boot system running as a folder within Vista and I like it very much! _/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/ walt

Its version 3.5 now, I am just downloading it now.
It will be interesting to try it out as the last time I tried Sabayon it was a nightmare trying to configure it with some of my hardware.

Thank you.

That one I have not heard of and that is why I am asking.
I just found out the following: Quote: |
Definition: i686: Most commonly seen as a suffix to binary packages (such as RPM packages) to be installed on a Linux system. It simply means that the package was designed to be installed on the 686 based machines, ie. 686 class machines such as the Celeron 766. Packages for this class of machine will run on later x86 based systems but there is no guarantee that they will run on i386 class machines if there have been too many processor based optimisations implemented by the developer.

Hi Eddie,
I wonder if your post above is in the wrong thread. But that's OK. I know what you're talking about. Thanks.

I installed Sabayon yesterday, yes it does do most things automatically, but for a Linux novice, Entropy would be the last straw.
After downloading version 3.5 ( the latest one)(4.2 Gb download) it showed 586 updates, so I started Spritz and it said before updating to get a newer version of Entropy.
There were no directions in the Wiki or on the forum how or where to get this update, but with or without the update you were still looking at 3-4 hours to download the updates.
For the latest version of a distro this is definitely not on.
It is a shame that what is essentially one of the best distros on the market is let down by its package manager.

Hi Mikorist,
I tried the SabayonLinux 3.5 Live DVD and of course it was slow from DVD, but also the system froze up a lot and seemed very unstable, so I did not bother loading it onto my laptop. Is your 3.4 version working well? No freeze-ups or instability?

Thanks Mikorist. So you have not loaded Sabayon onto your Hard Drive? Still running it from live DVD?
