B Grade laptops

Maplin may not be everyone's cup of tea, but this has to be worth a shufti!

minibook? Ultra-Portable Laptop > Maplin

Yipes! How close are the key buttons? No room for hefty fingers. However might be appealing for running some Linux systems.

I used to use a 100-step programmable calculator when they first came out from Texas Instruments (very expensive then - 1970s). Anyhow, I had just returned to College, this time to study electronics engineering technology, and I programmed many an integral calculus problem on that little machine. The math professor actual let me use it during an exam, simply warning me that if my algorythms were inaccurate and the answers wrong, then there would be no part marks, as I would not have any of the in-between steps written on the test paper. As it turned out, I did quite well on the exam (97% as I recall).

So a little machine like this one might be of use to some crafty students who can program in Linux, for example. The B grade one does not sound so good. I would find it difficult to go for anything 'B-grade' if I had to pay for it. Of course the 'A-grade' machine would have to be demonstrated as more than a toy, before I paid money for it.

This would actually be good for those who are going to college online and they do not have a laptop, or the money to buy an actual laptop. This would be perfect! Geez, I wish you wouldn't have shown me this. LOL

I mean I'm small, the laptop is small, omg we fit so well! LOL Plus I'm an online student, that I do not have a laptop to take with me for checking stuff online and the thing I like about it is the fact that it has wi-fi... I wonder though if it allows you to connect up to internet though by cord? Hmm... I'm going to have to do some research...

Also could someone find me some statistics by any chance? Like where I could see the likes and dislikes, and why they are bad and why they can be good? If you know what I mean...

Although, I just read that it has Linux on it, and I've never used Linux... I've always been a Windows chick... What is the difference between Linux and Windows?

Yeah, I seen that once you pointed that to me. Thanks for helping with that Walt! I appreciate it.

Once I seen the price for US, I was like , but I guess that's reasonable? I just want to know why it's so much cheaper in "euros" than it is in "american" currency. I guess I don't understand ha ha. Oh well!

Maybe in the future I'll get my hands on one of those laptops if I really find I need it.

CJ - It has to do with the exchange rate. That means that the banking systems are in on it in every country. Based on how well their economy is working compared to other economies they decide how much their money should be worth compared to other country's money.

So, for example in Europe, their money is called a Euro (€). They do not use the dollar like in the US. In fact in Canada, even though we use the dollar ($) it is not worth the same amount as the US dollar ($). Now it is about 87.8 cents and these values can change every minute, just like the stock market. In 1954 it was worth about $1.10 US. In the UK they use the pound sterling currency (£).

Check out the url below. It converts any kind of currency to another.
For example if you enter $369.99 for the CompUSA price and select United States Dollars - USD and then select Euro - EUR on the right hand side then click on Go! the result will show you the value of $369.99 US dollars in terms of Euros --> 369.99 USD = 270.628 EUR

So try this currency conversion site: If you order something from a country with different currency values they charge to your credit card on the day they ship and the bank that issues that credit card applies the currency value as it is at the time when they process your credit billing. So what you think you might pay may change depending on the day it is actually shipped.

Just saw a news report on the telly about these small portables. They have given them a special name for the North American market - Netbook.
Big sales expected for the Xmas season.

OK, sorry dk. I was mislead because Maplins was advertising them as 'minibooks'. Also, the news report I watched had said that the north american market had given these mini devices the new name 'Netbook' because it worked better for marketing and they also mentioned that these small laptops have been around since 2007 but had not been too great a success at that time, whereas now, with the 'economic crunch' the new name and new pricing was very promising for the entire computer industry. Well news people can also make errors.
