I have Acronis and it takes so long to make a back up
I have given up with it

Used to take forever for me too - that was another reason I dumped it.

The long time taken to make a back up that you people are experiencing is NOT an Acronis issue, you will get the same issue with whatever backup program you use, it's all about data transfer rates.
If you are backing up to an external drive and you only have USB1.1 ports or an external drive that can only operate at USB1.1 then it is going to be a slow process, it is faster with USB2.0 ports and USB2.0 drives, it is even quicker if you are backing up to another internal drive
Dont forget the more data on the drive the longer it is going to take too. likewise it takes longer if you select to use a higher compression rate.

It also is only as fast as your hardware. If you have a socket A 2400 cpu with 512 ram, even an internal drive will take twice as long as a Core 2 Quad with 3 gb ram. And the other thing is don't use the default settings as the higher the compression, also the slower the backup. Eliminate verifying the backup as part of the operation also, because to verify it all you need do is explore the image file after making it and if you can do that, the odds are the image file is ok anyway.

If you can explore an image file, it will restore anyway.
