As you may have heard, the WD factory is Thailand has stopped working as it is flooded.
Some UK distributors have taken this as an excuse to jack up the prices of drives by as much as a factor of 5 - the worst offender is Ebuyer who were selling (for example) a 500 Gb drive for about 50 quid - now it is over 200 quid.
Other disties are more reasonable - Scan for example is limited clients to 2 drives per order.
Ebuyer are in my book a bunch of opportunist creeps and I have taken all my business away from them as a result. As this was worth only about 2k sterling a month I doubt they will notice!
They are certainly taking advantage of the situation in Thailand.
I purchased a 500GB Seagate drive about two months ago for £32, on looking at online prices now, they are over £100.
They have started to come down again but not by very much - and oddly enough all the prices are round figures so clearly nothing more than what they (creepy ebuyer) think thet can get away with!
