Win 7 Pro 64-bit and SQL

Win 7 Pro 64-bit and SQL
SQL server will not install on W 7 Pro 64-bit - has anyone any experience of setting this up?
Initial error message is that
"an installation package for the product Microsoft SQL server native client cannot be found. Try the installation again using a valid copy of the installation package 'sqlncli_x64.msi'' I ran that without apparent errors and then tried again - the next error message was from .net framework saying that 'this computer does not meet the requirements to install this software. It then goes on to say that the product is not supported on Vista OS.
Anyone the faintest idea what is going on here?
