I have moved the music files in the playlists to another location on the same machine with the result that the playlists are now empty.
Anyone any ideas how to repopulate the playlists - I guess by changing the default location for the muic files in WMP.

I think you'll have to move them back to where they were or redo them.

I think you are right - if we used the properties box for the folder and changed the place to which the shortcut pointed I think it would take the directory link as well. So what we are going to do tomorrow is save a copy of the files to somewhere else, move the originals back to where they first came from and then use the resetting of the shortcut to maintain the link.
Stupid how we have such faith in Microsoft isn't it?

Thanks Dave - as I said, I cannot type on Mondays.
My "client" moved them because he wanted to free up some space on C:\ as it was down to less than 10% and slowing things up. The music all plays just fine - it's just the playlosts that are list, if you get my meaning?

By default, playlists are saved with a .wpl extension in the Playlists folder, which is usually located in the Music folder. You can also save playlists with the .m3u or .asx extension. To do so, click the List button at the top of the List pane, click Save Playlist As, and then change the extension in the Save As dialog box. Once you save the playlist, it's added to the Playlists category in the library.
