I wasn't sure if this was the right place or not but here's my question.
On IE you go to Tools>Internet Options and from there you can pick and choose what you want to erase, be it; history, files, forms, cookies etc.
On FireFox there is only one option.....Tools>Clear Private Data. This is the same way to eliminate the crap as what I eluded to above for IE, correct?
Just want to make sure that I'm not missing anything as I like to clear it all out from time to time. I also use CrapCleaner for this a couple times a month but I do this weekly at least.
Also, while I have someone's attention....lol.
If you type %temp% into the IE browser you get all the temp files that have accumulated. How is this performed with FireFox?
Regards

Len | Hi Len,
You have it right. Also under TOOLS - OPTIONS - PRIVACY you can check [√] Always clear my private data when I close Firefox. .
As for the temp files, I have no idea, never needed that - good luck.
Cheers,

Just found the info you were asking about Len.
In Firefox enter -> about:cache in the browser window and press the enter key.
On the page that is displayed there is a lot of info.
Click on > List Cache Entries to see all the temporary internet files in memory and then the same for all files on disk.
When the about :cache page is displayed you can bookmark it and then just click on the bookmark to access all the temp. internet files from then on.
Cheers!

That's really useful Walt - any other commands like that available? I had a quick Google and found nothing!

Thank you so much for this information Walt. I just have one more question.
Once I click on the 'list cache entries' and the 'Memory cache device' comes up, how do I delete all of them? Just highlight and delete? Or is there another way?
And do I want to delete the 'disk cache' as well? This contains only 7 entries and they look useful, such as yahoo tool bar items. Just wondering so that I don't delete something that will cause areas of my browser to become ineffective.
Sorry, I think that's actually two questions....lol.
Regards,
Len

There is a command that allows you to change configuration settings about:config. I have not used it myself, it could be dangerous as the initial warning sign indicates.
The following 2 links have more FF info: Category:Configuration - MozillaZine Knowledge Base -> see under A about:config entries
Mozilla Knowledge Base -> Knowledge Base - MozillaZine Knowledge Base
Cheers,

Regards,
Len | Hi Len - You cannot clear cache from the about:cache listing. This is only a listing of information. You must go to the Tools menu as described below: Clearing the cache in Firefox Firefox 3.0
1. Open FireFox (Mozilla).
2. Click the Tools menu.
3. Click Clear Private Data.
4. Check Cache. Note that any other checked items will also be cleared, so un-check any that you do not want to clear.
5. Click the Clear Private Data Now button. Firefox, older versions
1. Open FireFox (Mozilla).
2. Click the Tools menu.
3. Click Options.
4. Click Privacy.
5. Click the Clear button for Cache
Regarding your question about memory cache vs disk cache:
The Internet Browser Cache is a segment of hard disk memory reserved for storing recently accessed information from the internet specifically. This cache allows speeded-up performance when the same information is called on each successive occasion. When the information changes, a new cache memory entry is made. These are usually referred to as 'temporary internet files'. Memory Cache is a bit different in that it is the use of a reserved segment of Random Access Memory to make data processing faster and more efficient. The concept is the same as the disk cache, however this memory is erased when your computer is turned off or when RAM is intentionally cleared by a programme call. Memory cache is changed more quickly and more often then the disk cache depending on the number of blocks of RAM allotted the cache function.
Hoping this helps - Cheers

FF clears much quicker and easier than IE ever could.
I also use ATF Cleaner for IE and FF just an additional quick scaner/cleaner.
I use some other things a little more in depth but that's just me.
Good luck. |

Yeah, ATF is great and takes no resources as a run on command only.
I check Select All when doing IE.
When doing FF after selecting Select All, then check no if you want to keep passwords
and then Empty. Great little app. |
