Adobe Updater

Hi Folks. Once again I come hat in hand to ask for help.

Yesterday (while playing poker on PurePlay and solitaire on Pogo) I got a message from Avast that it was blocking me from going to a malicious site. The message disappeared and IMMEDIATELY my hard disk started running FAST. I couldn't get in to anything because the disk was just running away (I thought). I panicked and jerked the rug out from underneath everything with a reboot. After the reboot everything was back to normal. So,,, end of story right.

Wrong of course. The exact same thing happened today -- same set up as far as activity on my part. This time I didn't panic and finally was able to bring up FileMon. After I saved the log then I rebooted. Scanning through the log it appears that AdobeUpdater is repeatedly writing to AUTrans.xml. I did a google on that name and saw a couple of places that said to delete that file but I would like for someone over here to set me straight on what's going on and advise me about deleting that dataset.

As ever I am very gratedful for any assistance.

Difficult one! If it is an Adobe file download then it is OK. I have not heard of any rogue Adobe clones so my inclination would be to uninstall Adobe completely and then reinstall the latest edition (from their website direct and not one of the intermediaries).

Thanks. I uninstalled Adobe Reader and reinstalled. I did not uninstall Adobe Flash Player but did an install of the latest version.

Now it's wait and see time. Today PurePlay is having some problems so I can't recreate the same conditions.

Will update this thread when it appears to be working (or not).
