I had to call Aol yesterday as my pc was making strange clicking noises but only when the Aol software was running, they said it was due to a flashing advert and they were looking in to it. They have a setting to block popups and animated media and it works but it doesn't tend to save it's setting so I have to change it every time I log on!
I downloaded a prog called Ad Buster which is supposed to block Aol media but seemingly it doesn't work for version 9 so I'm back to square one, does anyone know if there's a free media blocker out there?

If you use Firefox, there is an extension available called Flashblock which works like a charm for me. You can even tell Flashblock which sites to allow if you like.

There are many ways to block popups or ads or flash pics.
But I just have to ask...why do you use AOHe11...I mean AOL, at all?
But I digress.
Firefox has good pop-up blocking abilities and it's free.
I was a die hard IE7 user but FF is better and faster hands down.
Good luck. |

There's a possible solution here for IE7 which is similar to the firefox add-ons.
I assume it's usable with AOL too. IE7Pro - The Ultimate Add-On for Internet Explorer

I've just started using IE7 Pro. Firefox is my main browser but it makes IE a little more usable.

Good luck. | I've not had many problems with Aol, I guess you love it or hate it, I like it's interface and it's easy to get around, I use Chrome a lot as I prefer a simple browser, they don't have to have all the bells and whistles for me, just do the job. I also use Firefox and find that suits me too because it can be customised to suit your needs

a tech POV. Techs see so many more user apps than any one user themselves and
therefore make comments based on their many experiences. Most techs, that I know,
do not like AOL or Norton or McAfee or yada, yada, yada merely based on the sheer
volume of systems seen that do encounter problems.
You are one of the lucky ones and I wish you continued success. |

thanks! I also think that techies don't like it as it's not challenging to them. I've been with Aol for around 5 years and found their Customer Service second to none, when I've had problems and issues with them, they've given me a free month and not just on one occasion! I also have my telephone plan with them which is really cheap and includes free tech support calls too, that alone is a big consideration as most Isps charge the earth for tech support! I say don't knock it 'til you've tried it, whether I'm just lucky I don't know but right now I wouldn't think of changing

AOL (Time Warner) eliminated subscription fees a couple years ago in hopes of
keeping users on its Web sites and increasing ad revenue. That was a good thing. AOL is not as problematic as it once was charging and maintaining dialup at a
rate twice others sometimes with many more headaches that techs had to handle.
I'm cursed with the memory of companies like AOL, Packard Bell and Compaq.
(Hey, I have a good memory...what can I say... )
I tried to help a friend cancel AOL once and they gave him 3 months free.
I then tried again to cancel and they gave him 3 more months free.
My friend finally canceled his credit card to get rid of AOL.
My homepage is Google with everything blocked out except the search and
submit block. Simplicity as I get way too much information overload as it is.
Good luck, enjoy it and I'm happy for you. |

Totally sincere when I said, "Good luck, enjoy it and I'm happy for you."
There are hate/love relationships scattered throughout the computer fields,
or any other fields for that matter.
Personal experiences define those relationships pretty darn well.
